Also, it won't go over about 3500RPM or 12-15 MPH. Beeping from monitor is inconsitstent, or none at all.

When attaching the DESS, it gives normal 2 short beeps, and has normal display (no MAINT message) until it is started; then MAINT and red LED blink in the display. Runs only 3500 RPM max and a bit rough. Also noticed that when I stop it with start/stop button, the display is often immediately blank (doesn't seem normal).
I did a bit of troubleshooting and found fair spark on both front and back. When I pull the front plug wire, it acts the same (apparently the one not firing). Pulling back plug wire - it won't start or run. The manual seems to indicate it may be a problem with the fuel injection system.
A guy who owned it before me said he took it to a dealer, who said it was the "CDI box". He didn't have the money; and I'm not convinced that is it ($1540 for an MPEM).
Anyone have a similar problem? What was the solution?

100 is low, but that shouldn't be tripping your light.

Unfortunately, you may need to take it to a dealer to have the codes pulled.

I think that the maint warning light be from low compression. Make sure you do the test on a warm motor. 100 psi is low. After I shut off my 00 gtx my dash goes off

There isn't a sensor in the engine that can measure compression... so it's highly unlikely that would cause the light to come on. But... if the fuel injection is going to an extreme to keep the engine running... that would. Like I said... it's fuel injected, so you have to pull the codes. We can guess all day, but the computer will say what is wrong.

Regadless... 100 PSI is low, and the engine is going to need some love.

NO!

You always do the test on a cold engine, with the throttle wide open. A warm engine, or oil on the rings will only help to hide a problem. I can verify that a healthy SeaDoo engine can produce 150 PSI cold. (check my signature)

Thanks for replying guys

The nearest dealer is 50 miles away, so I probably won't get it there for a few days or more yet.
Thanks for the info on checking the compression. I did not open the throttle when I got those readings, and actually, the very first reading I did get I got 150 or so, so it may well be oK.
Since you are the head of a dealership, I have a couple other questions you could probably answer, that the owners manual doesn't seem to.
1. I found another thread that said the problem may be clogged fuel lines, which I haven't ruled out. any thoughts?
2. Based on the info I gave earlier, Is my machine in "limp home mode" or not? I'm not sure from the manual.
3. Will I have to go to a dealer to get something "reset", or will it reset itself and begin to run normally when the trouble is dealt with?
4. Does the service manual have alot of info about how to work with the "codes" that would be in the computer? (I work on instrumentation and controls for a living)

Injector

swap the fuel and or the air injector to see if the problem follows. I have a xp -di that had a broken pin (or socket) in a connector that was causing a similar problem. If you have a manual check continuty of your harness if the air and fuel injector show good.

After you fixed the connector,

TJw_887 - once you fixed the pin in your connector, did it then start running right, and the warnings clear on their own, or did you have to do something else with the MPEM ?

Mpeg

if the problem is fixed the maintenence light will go away. The Meg will retain it in memory that can be read by the Shops using a BUDS, They can also clear or reset the codes.

OK, Sorry guys, for not updating you on the matter till now, but maybe someone will benefit somehow. I took it to the dealership they said the compression was quite low in the back cylinder, needed to be torn down. Waited till next spring, when the warranty on their work would do something for me, and they said they found the rod bearing out among other things. After they got it back together, they said it ran well, but the Maintence light still wouldn't clear. After changing a part that would have normally been responsible for that light, it still had the code, and the only thing left to make that clear was the MPEM. When they were done, it was a big bill, but it is running good.

OMG so you put a new MPEM into it on top of a new motor and some other parts? Was there a nice travel size packet of KY stapled to the invoice?

Do you trust the dealer?? one last hope is that the injector o-ring on the back cylinder is leaking... also check how tight the fuel rail bolts are... Sorry to hear of you mess.. If there warranty doesn't fall thru, PART IT OUT.. Motor is worth good money even blown.

Good luck
