2000 GSX RFI will start on the trailer, but as soon as you put it in the water it will not start. No codes, runs rich at idle on the trailer, no corrosion found anywhere, everything looks perfect, nothing disconnected, good battery, new plugs, rave valves not stuck, is this electronic? where do I look??? Can i clean the injectors?

yes, water on the hose it runs, but as soon as you have restriction to the exhaust, it stalls out, even on the trailer. seems like it is running full rich and the restriction to the exhaust just kills it! I put my hand over the exhaust and it stalled.

Have you done a compression test yet...it should ideally be at 150 psi, for starters.

yes this is a fresh motor, 155 psi both cyl, 147 degrees on the rotary valve, keys ok on the flywheel, magneto cup same position, but doesn't matter with this rfi, no codes , will the mepm computer show what may be out of spec.?

It might, but the seadoo dealer will have to put it on the system to see if it shows a trouble code. I can't open my manuals on this puter...but try pushing the start button 5 x with the dess lanyard in place. That places it in advanced diagnostic, and might show a code.

old stored code that came up was hi-temp. I guess I will have to have it scanned to see what is wrong electronically. Kustomkarl, do you have any ohms readings that these sensors should show?

Same Issue

I'm having the same issue with mine except that the motor isn't new. It starts just fine on the lift but when trying to start it in the water it just cranks. When it is started on the lift and put in the water while running it will continue to run just fine. Was told that the bendix spring on the starter may be going bad.

This is the first time in the water after fresh motor. This is a RFI engine, so the only timing to set is the key in the flywheel and rotary valve as the crank sensor sets the timing of fuel and spark. Something is changing the parameters of the spark/fuel mixture and it seems to run full rich for some reason. It runs right to 7250 rpm on the trailer, and actually sounds GOOD. But as soon as you put it in the water or cover the exhaust outlet, it stalls out very easily. How do you check timing with a timing light on this model, where would the timing mark be on the pto? Do you have to mark it yourself?

Very frustrating without the seadoo scan tool!!!!!!

well I just degreed my pto, marked it to 12 degrees with a dial indicator, started the Doo and it was timed right on the money at 12*/2500rpm, rock steady, and it advances when reved up. So this is now putting me toward the throttle position sensor, which looks like it needs to be reset to closed position with the SeaDoo tool. NO Codes/ no beeps ! Any way to check this TPS or reset without the tool???

I need help!

I NEED HELP! The tps was reset, as there were many codes found besides that. Everything looks great with the buds tester. I checked the fuel injectors off the motor and they look like they work just fine, pulsed back and forth. I put 60 lbs of air pressure on the rail and blew them out when I energized the injector, still looks like a good pattern and the ski will start right up on the trailer, back it into the water and it stalls. I did manage to get it to take off as I immediatly took off as it was running on the trailer. It ran great until I idled, then it wanted to stall again, and it eventually did and didn't start back up. The Seadoo dealer is unsure what is wrong with it, so do I change the injectors anyway??? is 58 lbs of pressure good? did I mention that it has fresh fuel... WTF!

For anybody who followed this, I finally got the ski back and nothing wrong acording to seadoo program tool....so I finally just replaced the fuel injectors and ordered a filter from PPG (not installed yet) and it starts in the water!!!!

Now the issue is it surges just off throttle to 3000rpm then clears up and runs great. Still starts up ok in the water and idles smooth. So does this mean that the throttle position sensor needs to be reset to zero closed on the programmer?
I asked for this to be done but I don't think it was done. Could this make it surge at just off idle???

Seadoo is back and like new again. The dealer (another one) finally listened to me and did what I asked, reset the TPS to zero closed, and whoa-la, it worked just fine. No parts to replace, just a reset. I demanded a water test as well as it only happened under load, so I had to pay an extra hour labor, but well worth it in the end!!!

This dealer used to race back around 2000, I raced the standup class, they did the runabouts. I never went to them before as they were out of my way, but now I will travel to get there if there is another issue with the doo's. Moral of the story is trust the guy's that raced them as they know soo much more then the manual readers! Thanks Armand's Motorsports!

Thanks or posting the updated information on your problem. I'm sure it will help outer owners too that experience the same problem.
