Hello, I have a 98 GTI 717 that I just purchased and the owner removed the oil tank and blocked off the lines right before I purchased it. I have been reading on here to get a idea if thats good or not, and obviously it sounds like a bad idea to totally remove it. Can someone please tell me in simple terms if its needed and and what lines to hook back up? I would certainly appreciate it. I do have the tank, he just cut the lines and blocked them off. Thanks Shawn :stupid:

Not an expert but if its a 2 stroke I believe you need that oil tank, it lubes the rotary valve gear thats in the bottom end as well as supplys oil to the gas. If you dont have this tank you need to premix you gas.

You should find out how long its been removed for. You might have some problems with the brass rotary gear if its been ran.

I totally understand that, and I am running premix 32:1 as what Ive read but I think I might need to reinstall the tank for the purpose of something else.
