I missed out on buying a 1999 GTX. I waited an extra day. So now im looking at this.
A friend of a friend is selling a 1997 GTX with 150hrs. Adult owned not beat up and always maintained.
Carbs were rebuilt last year by dealer and the ECM was replaced.
On the walk through the machine, it was very clean barely any scrapes or scratches on hull bottom and the top was clean as well.
Engine compartment was clean. I had notice them darn TEMPO Lines. Obviously they would have to be replaced.
It fired right up and ran nice.
Is there anything I should look for that could be a problem before buying this particular ski?
Is it worth buying as a recreational ski for my family and I? He is asking $1500 for ski with trailer.
I think this is a sweet deal.
What do you folks think. Should I jump on this?
Should I look at another model? If so please keep in mind that I would like to keep price under $2000 for ski.

Actually in my opinion it's probably a good thing you missed out on the 99GTX, the 97GTX is a more reliable ski, it has the 787 carbed engine much better for the do it yourself SeaDoo owner.

Yes $1500.00 sounds like a very fair deal especially with the trailer, and being at the peak of the season. I would suggest that you check the compression and take it for a test ride before you buy.

I'm not saying this in any way to degrade the ski this is just for your information, the 97GTX is a big three person ski, very stable and is a cruiser, if this is the kind of ride you want go for it. However there are more "fun" skis out there.

Thanks Lou!

Yea, I'm just looking for that family cruiser for me and my 8 and 6 year-old. They do not like the SPX or the XP. They say its to small and tipsy when riding. LOL
I thought the same thing about checking the compression, as I was driving home.

I think you are going to be very satisfied. I just picked mine up last month for $1400 with trailer. About the same as you describe this one, good shape, well maintained and clean. It was garage kept, but still had the tempo lines for me to take care of also. If everything checks out I hope you pull the trigger!

JC I think I'm going to buy it. Thanks

Lou, my wife and I are cracking up LOL. That's what I'm looking for. Wally World here we come.

I think the family truckster would be a great tow vehicle for your new ski.

I agree on the gtx. Love mine, it's the only one of my 3 that I have not had any issues with! (knock on wood) it's fast, stable, and reliable.

Also wanted to mention that taking it for a test drive if at all possible is important as stated above. Not sure if it's a 97 model year thing but my speed sensor on both my 97s didnt work and didn't catch it since I didn't test drive.
