Can anyone give me a good way to clean out the carb... We are new to pwc and trying to get our GTI going. We can put fuel down the mouth of the carb and it runs great, there is no fuel going through the carb though. Was running but not idling at one point, then it went to starving for fuel period. I think the carb is dirty but needing to know how to clean this type of carb... or anyone have any suggestions... Thanks!!!

Wow, I think we have bigger problems then not... Just went out to try again, it will not kick over the starter, will not beep, nothing... Battery is fully charged, cables are clean, chased all electrical lines, checked fuses, jumped started with screwdriver and it does spin, the lenard is clean and working... Took carb off, gas is getting in the the carb, but not out of the carb, so I know I need to clean that... But now that is the least of worries... any suggestions???

Only one carb on a GTI, right? Easy then.

If you want to get a feel for the scope of the work, check out this Carb Rebuild link in our How-To section: http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=3495

As I have just done the carbs in my HX last week (click here) I can attest to the straightforwardness of the carb work itself. It's just getting the thing off the ski that is always an extra bit of cussing....in particular twin carbs.

With the GTI's single carb, it is possible to clean it out in the hull. Just more of a hassle when you start dropping screws under the engine. :P You should plan on pulling it off the engine to save your back and do a better clean. And while you are there, why not just do the full rebuild?:)

Left side of this photo shows what you are trying to remove to clean (carb installed).

This photo shows the same plate with the carb out of the hull (a lot easier):

Once the plate and the fuel block is out of the way, you will see this - the filter is in the hole on the right.

This doesn't address cleaning the jets themselves unless you do a rebuild. You have to know that there are a bunch of orings inside for the low and high speed adjusters along with the rubber diaphragm - these can be damaged with carb cleaner.
