I have a 1997 GSI (720) i recently changed the stator and gen. coil. unit has run fine gor 10hrs or so since. Today the ski starts and runs until i try to accelerate, then it stalls. it is getting plenty of gas. I'm thinking ing. coil. Any ideas would be a great help.

Thanks
Al

I would say you little filter inside the carb is clogged. Clean it and add a before carb fuel filter. If you have TEMPO fuel lines they need changed out. Summer alcohol added to fuel causes problems with the lines. You can get repair manual off the Internet for free. Gives you procedures to take carb apart. You need metric hex drives to take it apart. You may have air leak in fuel system. A POP OFF TESTER can be used to test the fuel system. The manual has testing procedure. report back we can give you more help.

I have a pre carb filter that I put in years ago and have changed it before the start of this season! The fuel lines are original to the ski.

Then you have GT fuel lines. Your pre-carb filter will not save you as these lines basically corrode from the inside and plug up everything. The main issue is that this makes the engine run lean. Which means less oil. It basically east itself.

You need new lines, new fuel selector, rebuild the carbs using only OEM gaskets kits and replace the needle and seat.

Anything else is a waste of time.

Here is what the lines do.

New symptom I think, my info gauge (time rpm) while running it cuts in and out as if it looses power and you can hear motor want to die when gauge goes out. Checking for bad grounds now

Poor connection somewhere. Often the large positive and or grounds. They are old, I'd simply replace them and clean the area they mount to.

Check the black E-Box with coil and starter solenoid in it. Should be a 15 amp main supply fuse in there. If it has ever been filled with water the fuse line may be corroded near death.

Does anyone know how much fuel line is needed to change all lines?

The E box is dry no problems with water!

Ok I found the parts list to the carb. Does anyone know where I can get parts for it. I am striking out.

OSD.com He has whole kits. Order / Replace accelerator pump diaphragm. Buy his tool to change the check valve retainers. Read his stuff on his site about carbs. With the ski's age I would order the fuel tank vent / air in valves and replace them. Add / replace the fuel filter before carb. replace oil filter. Buy pop off tester too if you don't have one. You need it to test pop off when you rebuild carb. It can be used to test fuel system. Keep / reuse spring if it is in spec. look at gas filter / water separator in front hatch storage area. The gasket goes bad or cracks. It then draws air on high engine demand. The accelerator pump diaphragm may be your main problem. But is is always good to rebuild your carb. At least you know it has been done.

Ok did fuel lines and rebuild of carb. Going to the electric system. I'm getting .05 ohms out of 2 yellow wires coming from stator. Book says 40-76. Could this be why it won't run at high speed? I did change entire stator plate and rectifier. Ski ran good for 2 days, on 3 Rd day is when it stopped running at high speed, it just shuts down.

Ok found the problem a few days ago. The cheap POS stator unit I got feel apart. The generating coil came off the mounting plate and would loose ground and cause the ski to shut down. New unit installed all is well. I did take all mounting screws out on new unit and locktite them in.

Some things must be OEM. Starters, solenoid, carb kits, stator and rectifier. Others simply do not work well.

I just went through the same problem. Then the harness came loose and it grounded out on the fly wheel teeth! Fixed, running now!
