Have two xps, the one is smoking like crazy on this years first startup. Other is flawless. Both were winterized exactly the same way. Is that a cause from gettin to much oil and running rich? I know 2 strokes smoke but this is bad, luck no neighbors called the fire department. Suggestions? Runs and starts no prob, just super smokey.

Crank steal coulda leaked a little over the winter. I'd ride it first before I worried too much about it.

Check to make sure the cable to the oil pump is still on there correctly. If it breaks, it will go full open oil. Besides that, it is likely that the crank seals on that ski are leaking oil some. If so, they let oil seep into the lower end of the motor during storage. It should just burn off after a while. If it keeps happening each time you let it set for a while, you can put a shut off valve on the oil line from the oil tank to the motor. BUT MAKE SURE YOU OPEN IT prior to running.

Good call on checking the cable. Sometimes I assume guys have already done a through once over.

when my xp sat in the garage for more than 3 weeks, it smoked like MOFO when I first started it, to the point where the neighbors thought I had a fire :)

IMO, after sitting for that long, i'm leaning towards crank seals, i'd not worry about it for now, let it idle for a short period, brap it a couple of times (with the exhaust pointed towards the garage door), and start it up again once or twice and see if it goes back to "normal" (normal is still a bit of smoke) so your looking for it to go down to what you consider "normal", mine was premix so my normal amount of smoke was still a LOT.

Needs to be ridden in lake in water, with fresh 87 octane on top of whatever else is in fuel tank ( fuel stabilizer, 2 cycle mix, etc. ) and blast around get it warm. Cranking it up on hose you cant run it long enough to get warm.

Mine did same.

ya, I think your right there, I never thought about it much in that situation since it happened more than once, I do think it was less after a short idle, but maybe i'm mis-remembering, I just let it smoke for 15 seconds, then drove to the ramp and took a ride, never really had any concerns.
