I am currently trying to figure out why my seadoo will not go in the water. all it does is rev up. i checked the wear ring and found that nothing was wrong with it. but the beginning of my drive shaft is sheered. I am wondering if the previous owner installed the wrong drive shaft because it looks like it is too short.image (4).jpg

They are known to fail but normally the splines get wiped out.

It does seem to be "short". I'd suggest the impeller backed off but it is sitting in the correct location within the wear ring.

Are the bumpers on the ends of the shaft? And if the engine is to far forward and missing bumpers will just exaggerate the gap.

You need the bumpers that helps set the end play of the shaft, without them it will just "float". I'll have to look at my 720 plate to see if it can slide back, it might not be much. Has the engine ever been out?

I thought about the bumpers as well. But the gap is still to big. BUT,,,as noted, if the engine is moved ahead for whatever reason that plus the bumpers would explain it.

I bought the ski off of a guy that just had the wear ring replaced because he sucked up some string. I think that it did more than just tear up the ring I thing it screwed up the driveshaft as well and the treys replacing it with the wrong one. After they fixed the ring it was never put back in the water until I bought it. And I have never took it out on the water until last week and it just wouldn't go. All it would do is move slow and when I give it gas it just idles up. The begging of the driveshaft is wore down because it wasn't in all the way.

If both rubber bumpers are missing and there's no grease in the pto cavity and the impeller boot the drive shaft could move enough to cause this condition. Since you need to pull the pump and drive shaft any way take a look before you order a new drive shaft. I find it hard to believe a piece of string could shorten the drive shaft. Either it has the wrong shaft or the bumpers are missing.

I was looking in my manual and I saw a picture of the pump support plate for plastic impeller housings only. I have a plastic jet pump but there is not plastic pump support.
