Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can recomend a great sight to get a rectifier for my 1996 Seadoo GTX. And is this something that can be replaced easliy by me. The reason i believe its the rectifier is that even with a brand new battery it says 12v low.

Thanks

J

testing rectifier

before throw'n the dough away, fire ski up, hold rpms at 5500, and volt test the battery, should be in 13's low 14's..if in the 15 or 12's, then replace rectifier

What other component would make it read 12v low on a new battery if it is not the rectifier. Also stock rectifiers on these have been known to be a problem. And again not sure how to get started when it reads 12v low. So again back to my ? Does anyone know a Great place to get a seadoo rectifier was the original ?

Thanks

Hey buddy did you ever figure out your problem? I'm having the same thing happen to mine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

do the rect. test, on the battery, if its in the 12's or 15's on your voltmeter, then your rectifier is shot, or make sure you got a good/charged battery, locate the rectifier, disconnect the red wire, then go rip around. If it doesnt cut out, then replace the rectifier.

Thank you for the reply. I haven't had it in the water since I figured this out but I did test it with a volt meter. I have 12.8 before I start. At idle I have 13.5 then at 5500 rpm I have 14.5

It seems to check out but like you said I need to get her in the water.

The wierd part is the 12 volt low only comes on at the end of the day. She always starts right up though.

I don't know if it's related but my ski will only top out at 5500 rpm 40 mph with one person on glassy water.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

depend'n on what ski, but either way, need to clean the raves and have carbs gone thru. Have that been done, if not, i'm in your "neighborhood", if want thenm tuned up. Do they got grey fuel lines?

Well since the other guy with this problem hasn't responded I guess I'll just keep this thread going since other people are having similar problems.

Yes when I bought the new wet acid Everstart battery at wal-mart. $50 bucks. I folowed the directons to the T.

Filled it up. Let it rest for over an hour. Topped it off let it rest again. Then I charged it on a 1 amp charge for 8 hours with the caps vented.

I hope this is right, that's what the directions said.

I know a guy who fills them up then charges it on 10 amps till he can smell it cooking then he says my cookies are done.

Where are you located? I'm in good ol' fontucky.

A little background on the ski it's a 1996 GTX 800 rave engine. Bought it a month ago with a 1996 XP 800 and a double Zieman with storage box and fuel rack for $1500. Bad news is they had been sitting for 2 years. Both seem to run pretty well just a few bugs to work out.

Before I even took the skis out I did some research on seadoos and seadonts. I am a small engine mechanic and I know how important it is not to run 2 strokes lean. So I went through the complete fuel systems to to have a piece of mind. Everything looked great. Very little green goo on the fittings but not in the carbs.

I have been through the carbs couple weeks ago. Everything looked great. Even the internal filters only had a few specks in them. Pop off was good, they held pressure and all the diaphrams were still flexible.

I did put all new fuel lines on the carbs and a clear inline filter going to them. All the other lines are still gray but they looked good and had good flow with the air compressor. Took the fuel selector valve out and made sure it was clean.

Cleaned the raves and the slots. Checked the pistions through the slots and they looked good.

Good compression at 147 psi on both.

The ski starts right up and runs great all the way up to 5500 rpms 40 mph with one person.

I just can't figure it out.

Thanks for you help on this. Sorry for talking your ears off.

what rpm's do you get out of the water?
just wondering if throttle cable is hung up or not adjusted to get higher...
good luck

I think it might have something to do with my water regulator valve. Maybe it's filling my pipe up on high end.

I took it out and looked at it but everything looked good.

I'm going to disconnect it for a short ride and see if my prob goes away.

Either that or my rectifier is messing with me. Even though it tests out fine on the trailer.

Thanks for all your replies. I really appreciate your help.
