Hello All,

Brand new to this jet ski stuff but love everything mechanical. I purchased this jet ski because it fit my mission. Close to $500... runs... and floats... looks decent is a plus. :) I want to go through it before taking it on the water. Safety and reliability first and foremost.

I cleaned the engine compartment, removed a few items and of course found some questionable issues. :) I am looking for a diagram or better yet pictures of the engine compartment so I can see what goes where and what's missing. Would this information be available in the Manual section ? I need pictures for identification and connection points. :) It is kind of a mess under there. I also see what looks like to me as missing gaskets which I should be able to find in the parts manual. I am looking for a place to order parts

Oil Pump. I hope they ran premix because there is a yard of slack in the pump cable. I am considering just going premix. Being no stranger to multi cylinder 2 stroke motorcycles... oil pumps especially old ones are a cause for concern. :)

I need to figure out where to put the hose connection so I can start the ski at home.

I want to change oil and filters, clean carbs and such. I'll need the quick kill set up as it is missing. I will post pictures later and I plan to do everything under this thread if it is appropriate. I can't leave anything mechanical alone.... I just have to fix everything... gift or curse... that's me. LOL

Input is appreciated. Thanks !!

Good thinking

you can find parts here or several other places
post pics of your areas of concern, people will jump in and help you out or likely someone here with the same ski will post pics of working ski

Oil pumps on these skis are very reliable. There is procedure in the manual to test the oil pump.
The pump will go to full-flow if the cable is loose, adjustment/alignment procedure is in the manual
pre-mix generally means much higher consumption of expensive oil

I need to figure out where to put the hose connection so I can start the ski at home.

You can run for 30-60 seconds with or without the water connection; water is just for reverse-flushing crud out of the system. Short running restriction is to prevent burning up the main shaft thru-hull seal.

full fuel system clean-up is recommended/mandatory; lotsa info here regarding gray Tempo fuel lines, filters, carbs

Input is appreciated. Thanks !!

ski looks good

jump in and have fun

OK.... Identify these lines ?? I will be getting under the hood :) in a few days I'd just like to know how to run these lines and which ones to replace and understand a bit more than I do. Hope this helps. :D

Line from head to rear discharge of Ski. To the left I have an arrow point to the large hose connection. I am wondering if an o-ring should go at the bottom between the hose connections.
View attachment 39742

Looks like water inside this filter. Goes to rear for connection. The clear line is from engine head to rear of jet ski the one pictured above.
View attachment 39743

Line from under the exhaust manifold to rear... not sure where it ends up. :)
View attachment 39744

I haven't disconnected these so I don't know if both are fuel or none are fuel.
View attachment 39745

This is the filter I assume is water :) goes out the back and don't know what it is called or the purpose I am gonna have fun marking labeling and understanding what these do. I love this stuff. :)

What are these black hoses up front that connect to nothing?

Fuel tank hoses

I'd like to get the lanyard and key for safety. This is all there is. :)

All I have for now but should be enough for some head scratching. i will be looking in the manual but would appreciate input, comments, etc. Please be kind. I've been scarred a lot on these forums.

Get rid of those grey tempo fuel lines looks like they replaced some. But def get rid of them. Ethanol eats them and green goo builds in the lines and clogs the carbs. Pull the carb and rebuild it with a genuine mikuni carb kit. Also if there are grey fuel lines going to the fuel selector just replace the fuel selector also there cheap. Adjust the pump line to specs those oil pumps almost never fail. I have never had on fail on a seadoo or any of my skidoo's. Ill look where to download a manual. I have the 1195 manual i downloaded. I'll look for the 1996 spi

I am trying to find a carburetor rebuild kit and don't see one at the site I found for parts. Sea Doo Parts House. Mainly I wanted to get the flange gaskets that mount to the intake manifold. I've cleaned a lot of carbs and get them working without rebuild kits but I don't mind going the whole 9 yards. Where can I get one ??

With the concave section at the bottom of this fitting i am wondering if an o-ring goes in there. I have not had much like finding a pictures of this in the parts catalog.

I am looking at replacing some of the hoses but I want to use Tygon Yellow so I can see the flow. Since it is kinda pricey i am going to get what I need and a little extra.
Black Hose Label.jpg

Will Tygon Tubing replace both of these fuel hoses or are there Coast Guard considerations?

Im sure you can use tygon. The only issue i see is its not reinforced and can kink. Also heard that translucent or clear persay line gets brittle after a while. I used non efi fuel line at napa it has worked awesome. Get 20ft cause my spi used 17 ft i believe. That was a complete fuel line change out.

Your best and safest bet is the standard black automotive fuel hose. Some of the tygon gets hard with age when used with fuel.

Thanks. I will be careful in selecting the right material for the job. :) I have some parts ordered that should be in next week so I will hopefully make some head way. It's all about getting this thing ready for some family fun next month.

I called the local tires store and talked to them about correct tires. I'm gonna drive 70mph so I want something good on there. :)

I would suggest the Kenda trailer radial tires. Took them Laughlin last year going 80 in 120 degree weather.

Well, new tires are mounted. I told the tire guy I wanted tires I could go fast on and not worry. I'm not a speeder but I'm not driving 60mph either. 70 and I'm good. LOL I pulled the spindles to change the bearings and seal. Waiting on parts for tomorrow. Next on my list is the rewire the lights on the trailer.

By Wednesday parts should start arriving for the Jet Ski. Let the PM begin. :)

Well... who woulda thought the trailer lights would be such an issue. :) I made repairs and didn't buy new stuff.... it was a lot of extra work but... got R did. Also cleaned the rims, replaced the bearings and seals in the axles... all the lights are working on the trailer. Parts are in for the ski so I will begin the PM portion. I bought a reverse flush hose, carb kit, hose and some filters. When I dive in I'll know more about what I need and see what I find. Gonna listen to some music and work on the ski. :)

Looks like you are about ready to go out and get wet.

Rod... if the engine runs good, would you still recommend rebuilding the carb and fuel system. I know this thing has not been taken care of properly from a maintenance perspective.... I just hate taking things apart the are working properly. :) I have many other things I want to check an verify though. Insight would b appreciated.

I think the real experts would agree with me on this.

The carbs are rather simple and it sounds like you like mechanical stuff.

On the old ones (that is all I have) you may just get away with cleaning out the carb and testing pop-off. I think I got my pop-off tester from SBT. The needle-seat tends to be a leaking issue but that will appear during the pop-off test (needle/seat assemblies are rather inexpensive). The internal filter is a big issue (I found a couple in my 96 XP that were so crudded up I was surprised it ran), but can be cleaned up most of the time. Check threads or even youtube to see process. wd40 on needle/seat during test, cover it cus it will spit on you when reaching pop-off.

I am a big fan of using clear "FUEL" line or a short piece just before the carb (secondary fuel filter works) to insure you are not sucking in air which leads to lean running.

Others may jump in if I have missed anything important ... lots of threads on this.

Well, I don't know what a pop off test is so I guess I'll research. I have the carb kit so I'll clean it up and get that done. I do like mechanical stuff but I've got a lot of it to do. :) Thanks for the help.

I am moving from the trailer repairs back to the jet ski. My parts have arrive and I am trying to get a maintenance repair path. I want to get ready for our Vacation next month.

Questions about Oil pump and throttle cable connection. This cable was not connected to the oil pump and the oil pump does not spring back. It just stays where you put it. Not sure if the pump is working as it seems kinda limp. :) I have a few pictures to help. I am considering blocking off the oil pump an going premix but am open to suggestions. :)

I have a question about the hose in the last picture.

Looks like spring for pump isnt right hence no spring back. Yes hook your cable up and line up the two marks one on arm and on pump. Adjust cable accordingly. These pumps almost never fail. I wouldnt block it off and premix it. Also looks like you still have grey lines still attached. You need a pop off tester you can get at osd marine. I got one and did mine. Its not hard youtube has videos on this. Youtube is your best friend when wanting to do something like oil pump adjustment and what not.

Looks like the spring is just disconnected from the pump position control. Hopefully that is all it is but kinda strange that it is not on there.

I spent some time on Youtube so I plan to test the oil pump. :)

Go to youtube and look up mikuni carb seadoo (or something like that), there are several videos covering rebuilds and pop-off ... pictures vs words.

I have a question about the hose in the last picture.

Hose in last pic is the pulse line ... crank case pressure changes drive the fuel pump. No fuel so that is not an issue with this line, however you are better off replacing it due to old age which leads to air leaks which leads to fuel pump not operating properly.
