Hi there need a little help Im lost one this one!i have a 1995 GTI Running Fine lost power then shut off all it does now is click when you hit the start/stop button replaced battery still same thing tried other key same thing I get the beep sometimes its loud or normal then other times can hardly hear it. Checked all the wires for loose ones all tight and checked fuse in the black box all good. Any ideas guys? Thanks, Ted

Ted...where the battery cable leads into black box, there should be 2 post there, jump those w/ screwdriver or thick gauge wire, if it kicks over, that is your solenoid, replace it, after you've double checked all fuses and connections, along with condition of your wires/cables...

hi. lost power while running? sounds like you could have lost the motor. first thing, take out plugs, take off grey rear cover, and see if you can turn the rear flywheel by hand. if turns free, then you have small problem. if won't budge, you have largish one.

Ted I agree with derek. After taking off the gray cover is a black boot behind the engine, with 2 clamps on it loosen them up,slide it back and you will see a shaft. See if the shaft turns counter clockwise. Use a pipe wrench if you need to. Just be careful not to damage anything. If it is frozen and won't turn... than it might be an engine seizure.
Keep us posted on you findings.

I played with it a little today the shaft when I hit the button and the shaft turns just a little when you press the start button. Ran out of time I try to turn it by hand next will keep all updated! THANKS FOR THE HELP SO FAR!!!

The pistons do move a little while trying to start it. Also failed to mention that it was slipping and wouldnt want to come out of the water if you baby the throttle it would come out then you could go all out. A friend of mine was on it I was on the Polaris it lost powered, but then fired back up but felt like half throttle, when it was full throttle then died again, fired right back up and was fine for a minute or two then died and here we are. Hope this helps out more.

Good suggestions from members....

Mustang, I just read your initial post from start to finish. It seems you've got a few members who have made some suggestions and you've yet to follow up on them.

They are trying to help you determine if there is any internal damage to the motor.

Remove the spark plugs, remove the grey cover over the PTO, it's just two little plastic thumb screws, then take your hand and try to turn that drive shaft counterclockwise. If it turns, these members will need to know, if it turns freely, if it feels like it's grinding, or does it turn a little and catch, or do you feel flat spots?

Please perform this test for these members trying to help, then I'm sure they can move on to the next step.

it is either the engine or the jet pump that has siezed. i would bet on the motor. they die while running. jet pumps sieze over the winter. BUT-pull the pump and see if the motor turns. since u hafta pull pump to do motor anyway.

if bottom end is bad, i'd look at sbt website, great price w/ warr. being a 95', topend will approx be half what a rebuilt motor cost, either way, that motor is coming out, rip thru it, see what you find, if you decide to send to sbt, you've saved them time already
