02 Speedster engine cuts out after a few hrs.

So when I am out riding on the water after a few hrs. the engine will turn off at higher speeds. When it cuts out, it cuts out clean, just stops no spudering. It takes two to three times of turning it over to start. After the first time it cuts out that day it seems to get more and more frequent. Can someone Please Help?

Are you getting the 2 beeps everytime you plug on the DESS lanyard? If not and you have to re-plug it to get the beeps it could be a dirty Post and cap. Clean them with soap and water and that might do it. Don't use any sprays or anything after cleaning them. Let us know if this is the problem.

mercury V6

I never take off the DESS lanyard off, will I get the same two beeps by just turning on the key. This boat has a mercury V6 in it just so you know and Thankyou for such a fast response and your help.

Ok, that's different. Your engine has the m2 Mercury engine....let me do some research.

Ok, so I checked the beeps when I turned the key on. I get just 1 beep as it says I should get in the manule. The lanyard is not DESS it's just a push in pin switch under the lanyard.

Yes John, on the Mercury M2 engines it is different than the rotax engines. Yours has a key and a safety lanyard. On the Rotax engine type they have a DESS,( Digital Electronic Security System) the difference is night and day...
