Swap GTX 951 silver with 951 GSX white cylinder?

I have a 1999 GTX Limited with the 951 engine. Unfortunately, I have a crack on both sides of the center threaded hole for the head. Will the white cylinder from a 1998 951 GSX work in place of the silver cylinder in my GTX? I have read that complete engine swaps are possible with some attention to the jetting, electronics and flywheel etc, but couldn't find any straight up 2
info if the white and silver cylinders were interchangeable between the 1998 GSX and the 1999 GTX.

Crap...thanks for the info but this only adds to my confusion...found the cylinder below on eBay and they say this cylinder will work with both the 1998 and 1999 carb models. How can that be if the porting etc was different in 1998? Be a very big disappointment to get the new/used parts here and find out they didn't work.

So the "white" engine was actually only a 1/2 model year engine and is actually a 1997.5 not 1998. They had a lot of problems with it and in 1998 came out with the "silver " engine. I think even the pistons are different and the carbs are too.

ahhh, ok...so this guy is advertising it wrong then. It is a brand new 'white' cylinder that he says will work on a 98 and a 99, no mention of a '97.5' model. Glad I did not buy it then...and feel the need to inform him of his blunder.
