Wats up everyone. I am new to forum and first post. I just purchased a 99 gsx ltd a week ago. He told me the starter was bad and needed battery. Replaced both and engine turns over and sparks but it is not getting fuel. I was wondering what sends the fuel to the carbs? Does it have a pump or is it vacuum? I pressurized tank and I had fuel coming out of the fuel line. But nothing while trying to start it. trying to get this thing on the water ASAP. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pour alittle premix down the carbs and see if it will fire up. Also get a compression reading since this is a new to you ski. All it needs is a battery and starter is the most common words sellers use when it won't run and they don't know why

Compression is good. It will fire when fuel is dumped into carb. It is just not getting fuel. I've blown thru the lines and I get fuel,it just won't supply itself fuel to start. What exactly sends fuel? I only see two wires going into tank, I assume those are for the sending unit, not a pump. If that's the case is it vacuum feed? If so, how are the vacuum line routed. I also see a hose port on top of the oil reservoir that is not hooked to anything. Appreciate the help. Trying to get this thing ready. Have plans Thursday that I would really hate to miss out on.

Do you have Grey Tempo fuel lines?

If so, get rid of them, clean the fuel selector, the filters that are on the inside of the carbs and replace the fuel line between the carbs.

In the fuel tank is a pick up with 4 feed lines, one is direct return from carbs, one is vent, one is on to fuel selector, one is reserve to fuel selector, fuel selector has 3 feed lines fuel in, reserve in and fuel out to separator/filter this has a the aforesaid mentioned feed in from selector and feed out to carbs, if it has the grey tempo lines chances are the tiny filters in the carbs are gunked as you have fuel to Carb and ignition when fuel is squirted direct into carbs

If your fuel line to the carbs is clear as well as your fuel return line. You probably have one of two problems. Either your fuel pump is not functioning, or your internal carb filters are plugged tight. If you disconnect the return fuel line & hook up a temporary line to a coffee can, you should get fuel coming out after a short run time. put a small amount of fuel down the carbs, fire it up & see what happens. If you get fuel, your carbs are probably plugged up. If you don't get fuel check the pulse line to the fuel pump (its on the carb towards the front of the ski) its possible that pulse line has a problem, or your fuel pump needs a new diaphragm or check valves.

Ok. Thanks for help guys. I'm going to further diagnose problem tomorrow when I get home from work with the information I received from yall. As for the fuel lines, they have already been swapped out. I'm going to pull carbs and soak them tomorrow add well as test fuel pump. It has to be one or the other because everything is there except for the fuel

One other question. I have to pull motor to slide tank back and remove pump correct? That's what it is looking like to me. I hope not

No, your fuel pump is part of the MAG carb. So just pull the carbs, 4 bolts, 2 fuel lines, and a couple pulse lines.

If you ever had to access the fuel baffle (changing fuel lines, fixing gas gauge, etc) then remove the steering column (4 bolts) and it will pop out through there.

10-4. I am going to pull carbs and clean them today when I get out of work. I know the ski has been sitting for at least 6 months. Are those pumps known to go out? I am hoping to remove the carbs to find the filter clogged like 68 rag top stated. There is one other thing I noticed last night. There is a small nipple on top rear of 2 cycle oil reservoir attached to tank that looks as if it is missing a vacuum line or something. Can some one please fill me in as to what this nipple is for or where the missing hose is supposed to be routed to. Thanks again guys. You have been great help so far.

Also check the fuel water separator filter, an air leak there and the pump will draw air not fuel.

I see a filter in between tank and motor. Is that the water fuel seperator or is there 2 filters?

It is the one where you can unscrew the bottom and there is a fine filter inside. It is mounted under the handlebar area towards the front of the ski. An airleak there will cause fuel delivery problems.

Thanks. I'll be sure to check that when I get home also

Does my ski have crank case oil? If so, how do I go about changing it? I know I need to get a manual. I am gonna order one Friday. So bear with me guys. Yall have been excellent help so far.
