Just bought this pwc and had to get keys programmed. Installed new battery fully charged. Had it out on the water and in 5 minutes the 12 volt low light came on. Stopped and would not stop the battery was weak. Looked at all connections they all look good. dealer told me I had to buy a new MPEI for 800 bucks. Dont know if I believe him. Is there a voltage regulater on these things? The dealer said it was built into the MPEI. Help

Well... the dealer is partly right. Your ski was a goofy year. The genius's at Seadoo decided to put the regulator internal of the MPEM. So... when they go bad... the dealer will tell you to buy a new computer. BUT... if you dig around the net... there are a few places that sell an external retrofit kit. (for about $100) But, since it's not a factory part... the dealer isn't going to help you with it.

Dont by anything before you check out a few things! How old is the battery? 98 GSX has a low setting for the 12V low code. Even with a new battery and the electrical system checked out and working you may still get the 12V low code everytime you start it. On start up the starter pulls volts from the battery then trips the code. Once running the code should go away but if it doesnt then you need to start troubleshooting the charging system. First start with the battery though and see if its any good. Take it and have it tested, if its good then put it back in the ski and check it with a voltage meeter.

I have the same ski and had the same problems. If you unhook the stator and take an ohm meter to it you should have between .3 and 1 ohm phase to phase. Then ohm all 3 phases to ground if any of them have continuity your stator is bad. My 12v low light is on every time I start it and then goes off now. Good luck...
