Y'all were right.....I give up.

Haha a dual engine Speedster is no solution for the guy who likes a care free "set it and forget it" ride. There are so many things that have to be just right on a nearly 20 year old boat. So many cables, adjustments to sync, etc.

If there are no air leaks in the engine or problems with the fuel supply then a properly set pair of stock carbs with the OEM flame arrestor will sort it.

I'm talking simplicity with the motors. Those 720 motors are about as basic as you can get. They're like my 701 in my yammi. If they've got fuel.....they'll run. :)

Ordered the n/s as well as the jets. Ordered from OSD, they're normally really fast at getting me parts. Now need to pull of the carbs and go through them again to make sure all is well. That and get up with 1983 to get ahold of a stock air box/FAs. :)

Ok so after this you guys think this is a set it and forget it setup? Is there any reason I could still run lean up top even being stock?

Suke - I have a good spare bottom of the air box w. gasket you can have if you want....I have no use for it.

For the 787? Nice I imagine in Cary you're close to where I work in RTP. Yeah Rob was gonna hook me up since he said he had a ton of them anywho. But if you're looking to clean out clutter I'll take it and grab the rest from Rob. :)

Yes for a 787. I'll PM my address.

If this doesn't sort it I'm gonna sell it and save up for an R12x or grab a speedster with the dual 717s. Cause it's apparent a 787 isn't for me.

I love my r12... if running they are awesome... but as far as "complicated " goes.... i think they make the DI models looks simple :)

Seems like all the 4 strokes turbo or supercharged are complicated as hell, but it's a honda. Which Mpower will likely say it's underpowered and slow......but reliable. Seems like as long as you get a fresh water honda and make sure the waste gate actuator isn't jacked you're good. They're also approaching the point of affordability.

I poked around yesterday looking near me and found a couple within just a short drive under 4k with trailer. After beating them up a little bit and getting it without the trailer could walk away with one for 3k.

I think you can still get them NEW in a crate.

I just saw they have a recall for the fuel tank possibly

Yup racer is right. My gf's dad said they bought an 06 brand new in 09 for 5 out the door from a dealer. Apparently in 06 was around the time Polaris went out of business and they Honda expected more business than they got. So he got a killer deal because dealerships had to take a certain amount and they were trying to cut their losses. R12x turbo red black and white, well whatever one the 3 seater is

Chris your love affair with all things Honda needs to stop here. You're basing wanting one simply on it being a Honda. So many other better options than that thing.

Welllllll yes and no. I actually love the way they look!

I'd never own a CBR. :)
I'd rather ride this Hondo, about the same buy it now price on fleabay.

Those big block motors in those things sound sweet. I don't think I've ever seen one of those in person. Seems like those projects are all over CL.

I was a honda Car nut until I fell in love with lexus/toyota and made the swap with all 3 family cars. Still think they are great.

I'll share my Honda PWC story quickly....
My bro in law owned one and I used to make fun of him for it...

One day he decides he wants to get a boat and needs to sell his ski asap so he rings me up and say's "do me a favor and take my R12 for a test ride" I reluctantly agreed. We went out to the local lake and I ran out for a short run and had a blast, it was more nimble than any RXP i've been on, quieter than any yamaha I've seen, had great midrange, and topped out at 61ish, added bonus was a 120 mile range on a 16 gallon tank. Within 5 minutes I decided to buy the ski, that was a year ago and honestly I couldn't be happier. (and i've talked 5 people into buying one since then) These ski's might be capable of outlasting any brand out there.

Only downside is that you need to be either mechanically inclined or find a quality guy within a reasonable driving distance if you need diagnostic help. Fortunately I have two, but I haven't needed them yet.

Yes they have a fuel tank recall, I skipped it myself, for now.

Three weak spots if there are any, Turbo's & wastegate tend to rust, & need generous amounts of crc to keep them spotless, rebuilds have gone down in price. The ECU seems to be a troublesome issue, giving false readings and make you chase electrical gremlins, but for a good tech, its not a big deal. Lastly, the oil lines run under the engine and i've been told by a honda specialist that he's seen a few that were about to pop, but he's actually only seen a couple go and cause engine failure.

I'll be honest, I rank the R12X in the top 3 overall, right up there with the RXPX and the GP1300.

I'd own an FZR if I could afford one. :)

no issues with the FZR, IMO its what the GP1300 wanted to be when it grew up. I'd probably choose the FXSHO if the money was available because I think its better offshore, but it will probably be years before I stumble across what I'd consider good deal on one. (under 4K)

This one's a v-drive, so best way to go faster. As long as you keep it off sand bars. Rot is the main issue to look for on these, can be more work than you wanted replacing and relaminating the wood on any old boat.

I just do not care for the way they handle, especially in chop, and they are deathly slow compared to the competition. Combine that with finding spare parts for them has to be tough. A PX is in another league.

Those are nice but sooooooo big. I mean huge. The size of your S2000. Upside is the mod potential is great. The one I built for Corey ran 86 all day and we have Bobs nipping at 90.

I haven't heard of parts being an issue. It's a moot point, it won't happen. I'm just frustrated that's all.

Where are pics of the garage queen in the water today? :)

Agreed it'll be many many years before I could get one of those.

MPower i'm pretty sure I spotted you ripping it at Lake Gaston on the 4th, if not there is another 95' XP800 there.

1983 no way! That was definitely me. There aren't any others on the lake. You shoulda let me know you were coming or waved me down!!!

Coming later tonight. Just got off the water. Man I forgot how much fun this one is. Going from the resto ski with stock sponsons/prop/grate to the garage queen with sponsons/skat prop/worx grate/raised compression/jetted water box it is a different animal. Acceleration is insane.

I'll def hit you up next time i'm heading up to Gaston. I saw the pink bottom of ur ski as you flew over a boats wake and knew it had to be your 800.

You guys want to ride Jordan Lake Farrington boat ramp this saturday? I gotta put my new reg stickers on and then i'll be ready to roll out.

If not i'll be at Falls Lake on both days this weekend.

Rob
