i am new to this so here is the thing i just got a seadoo XP 1996 i put it in the water over the weekend and it will not go over i would say 5mhp. idles fine some time it would rev out for 5ft. and would go right back to 5mhp and fall on its face like there is no power under load as soon as i got it out of the water the thing would rev out and sound like it has alot of power where should i start?

It sounds like you need to remove the carburetors and clean them. If you're careful and don't tear or damage the diaphragms you won't need to buy a rebuild kit. Pay attention to the internal filters too. If you have gray fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel lines available from auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Measure the length you need and bring a sample with you so you get the correct size. Replace one at a time so you don’t get them mixed up. If you need clamps replace them too. Use small stainless steel clamps also from the auto parts store.

Keep us posted on your progress.

I had the same problem on my 96 xp 800. Check your on/off/reserve switch mine was frozen and full of crud. either replace or clean and blow out the switch. If any thing it will be a good starting point. Good luck

If there is crud in the fuel switch...its in the carbs. They will need to be cleaned anyway.

ok so i put new lines on today. sucked all the gas out it smelled bad.going too do a little work tomorrow and see what happens i cut a line it half and it looked fine in side

You can't see the difference. There is like 15 feet of fuel line. It is so minute but over 15 feet of line it builds up in the carbs fine screen internals filters, and clogs them.
