Hey has anyone ever done a vinyl wrap on their skis? If so, who did you use? I tried searching the forums but I didn't come up with much, I don't think I'm using the search correctly, so apologies in advance.
 
I ran across some pre cut/shaped wraps for different model skis on eBay the other day. Don't Remember what I was looking for but I saw them. Designs were pretty odd but it is out there. Of course a custom fitted like a vehicle wrap would be preferred. Above the rub rail only haha. Adhesives and submerged water don't work too well.

Good point! I know a lot of folks paint them instead but I imagine that's more expensive. I came across jetskidetailing.com - called World Class Wraps - looks really high end - anyone ever used them?

I've only seen one ski wrapped up close it was a 96 xp... and the vinyl had quite a few "nicks" in it mostly from what appeared to be dock rash... granted the owner was a wave jumper, and pretty much abused his ski, but from 30 feet away it looked fantastic, but from 3 feet away it looked pretty rough.

Based on that very small sample size, i'd say that you'd have to be really cautious around docks and such, or you'll find that over time it will look kind of beat up (especially compared to gel coat).

I'd suggest just a good solid wet sand/buffing and some well placed stickers, save your money or invest it in some mods, but that's just my opinion.

Excellent thoughts as well, thanks! I have found that since this is my first time through, it's been a bit more difficult to know where to allocate the budget. Trying to strike a balance between a solid running rig, which is obviously a must, and one that looks good too.

You mention 'mods' - which I assume to mean for better performance and so mechanical, what such mods do you think are worth the money and time spent? I see people talk about flame arrestors, impellers and the like but then I also see a lot of folks who say that stuff just doesn't matter that much. In your experience, what did you find your worthwhile mods? Would love to here from anyone else too? My ski is a 787 RFI (2000 GSX).
 
they can do different colors and designs as well. the black on mine is actually carbon fiber look but the pics dont show it well.

i'm not quite sure what mods are best suited for the RFI model, I have never been on one and honestly almost never see them on the water around here, so I'll answer generically.

FA's I don't think Flame Arrestors have much to offer (funny that I say that: considering every SD I ever owned I added FA's) But they DO hold some benefit if in conjunction with other mods.

Intake grate might generate an improved ride, especially in rougher water

Impeller/Nozzles, I definitely noticed a difference there, I was a fan of swirl over xo but to each their own.

Factory or (or maybe Rossier) in conjunction with ECWI, very noticable

Sponsons, improved handling if you like hard cornering, it didn't suit me but the difference was VERY noticeable.

Milled head, that will run 93 octane, every AM head I ever owned I re-sold a few days after, so I can't speak about the improvements from personal experience but a LOT of riders are huge fans.

UMI, not my cup of tea, besides aesthetics I really never understood all the hype, but i'm a rec rider.

Upgraded Carb's, always been a stock carb fan myself, at least until you decide you want to really push the limits and you've done dam near everything else, they are dam pricey,

Seat Cover, even at twice the price they are worth every penny IMO, both of my ski's right now have stock cover's and I hate hate hate them with the heat of 1,000 suns, but i've been too lazy and cheap the last 6 months to have them re-done. (I've been on Jtrim, Blacktip,Mline and HTurf, I personally like Mline the best, but they're all comparable) What I ended up doing on my personal rides was paying around $175 for a custom seat installed that copied the other's style but with some better quality fabric, and IMHO the difference astheticaly was night and day and the improvement in comfort (stickyness) was significant. My current stock vinyl seats are quick slick when wet, and I really really want a better grip.

Turf Mats, I can't tell the difference between BTip and HTurf myself, others say they can, but I will say this... both are significantly better than stock mat's, especially if your stock mat's are the plastic ones.. (awful)

Paint: I've seen some cool painted ski's but none that made me want to dump the money to do it..
(my yami was repainted professionally b4 I purchased, looks slick) but I never would have paid what it really cost to have it done right)
