Would it hurt my Sea Doo Speedster 150 if I tune it to 8100rpm ?

I'm buying a tuning tool for my Spark, and the engineer at the tuning place say they can do a tune for my Seadoo Speedster Naturally Aspirated 150 to go up in RPMs (that's how SeaDoo is detuning the Sparks).

What do you guys think? I can probably make it go faster? Just don't want to hurt the engine?

It's a loaded question. the RPM's in short term, won't hurt the engine. BUT... the higher the top RPM... the shorter the engine's life overall.

Unlike a 2-stoke... you have to consider all the parts that change direction when the run. (like the valves) at some point, you will float them, and they will contact the piston. (VERY bad) Regardless... the higher RPM's will cause them to shut harder, and you will eventually stretch, and break a valve stem.

Personally, on these new engines... I wouldn't run the RPM's any higher than stock.

I would imagine Seadoo engineers knew what they were doing, and did so for a good reason. They are under pressure to beat the competitors, so if pulling more r's and therefore speed/ performance was viable, and wouldn't compromise the product life, I would think they would have done so from the get-go?

If I remember correctly, from watching some of the scarab videos, the rotax power plants are being marketed in 3 varieties (as they do in seadoo watercraft):

1. N/A version about 150hp
2. Supercharged about 200hp
3. Supercharged and intercooled about 250hp

I agree with others here that trying to add power to the N/A engines will probably result in shorter lifespan. Be happy with what you have and if you need more you are probably better off getting a supercharged model.

If I had it to do all over again I probably would have held out for a supercharged version of my boat, as it does feel taxed some times. I am happy to see all of the manufactures coming out with new Rotax based boats though.

Thanks Guys, the reason for the question is, how is SeaDoo by this I mean, Rotax capable of putting out 200hp on the Naturally Aspirated 1503? On the new Scarab and Chaparral Boats, look:

http://www.guideautoweb.com/boat/specifications/scarab_boats/jet_boats/195/2014/

Or is it Super Charged?

150 is NA
200 is SC with internal IC
250 is SC with external IC

Basically same engines that were in the Seadoos but the lower output is due in part of a new catalytic converter required to pass stricter emissions.
