Winter time overhaul

So I bought a 95 speedster last year with dual 657's. I had some issues with it during the summer, mainly being with driver side motor. The things I have done to it so far is wear rings, new reverse cables, spark plugs and battery. I still had issues with acceleration after the wear rings and I also had a problem after submerging the boat with the spark plugs being wet. I took the boat to a marine shop and they told me that the starter had came loose nd may have taken out the fly wheel. So this winter I was going to buy a new starter, flywheel, and do a car rebuild. Is there anything else I should do during the winter so that I won't have to fix this thing after every ride? I just want this motor to be right. I'm guessing if the teeth of the flywheel is messed up the take off would be difficult. Am I right? Any help would be great.

IDK about the flywheel, but I wouldn't buy one until you see the condition of the old one first.

Also, have you replaced the gray tempo fuel lines with black auto fuel lines and add an in-line fuel filter to each motor?
Dr. Honda does a great rebuild job on the carbs, he checked my over this past summer.

where about are you in Michigan?

Removing the flywheel can be hard. Especially if it's gotten wet. (ie Rusted on)

But before getting crazy with removing the flywheel... just remove the cover, and check it.

There is no reason to have to "Fix it after every ride". Just make sure things are right.

As far as your comment about bad acceleration after a wear ring... does that engine turn over easy by hand? You may have a bind in the drive line. Also... check the compression on that engine.
