Hi folks. New to the board and a new owner of some used Sea Doo's.

Found a 96 XP and a 94 SPX on a Zieman trailer, from the original owner, locked up in his garage since new. Only about 25-50 hours on each ski at the most. They both look like they came off the showroom floor yesterday.

The 94 I believe has a blown crankshaft seal, as it smokes like crazy on startup. However it does disipate after 20 seconds or so.

The 96 wouldn't start, but I just finished a carb rebuild and found that both needles were frozen in the seats with the green crud from the original Temp fuel lines. Lines replaced and carbs are back on. I'll fire it up tonight.

However... I'm not sure what 2 stroke oil the previous owner was using. Looking at the owners manual for the 96 XP, it states Rotax Formula XP-S Synthetic only. Is there a substitute oil that you guys run? Can I buy the same oil to run in the 94 XPS?

I'm in Lake Forest, CA... right next to Mission Motorsports... so I can get oil there. But would prefer something at Wal-Mart if I can go that direction.

Sorry for the long post... I'm looking forward to some good times on these skis. We will have them out this Friday for our house boat trip on Mohave.

You can search here and find a plethora of information on what oil to use. Gets talked about almost daily. An alternative to the XPS that is sold at Wal Mart is the Quicksilver PWC oil. Make sure it is the PWC oil and not regular tcw3 outboard oil. The jug actually says PWC on it. The mineral synthetic blend would be fine for 94-95 both. It is usually like 20 bucks a gallon cheaper than XPS too.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I did a search, but no results were given. I even searched for "oil" and nothing came up, which is why I made the post.

Is the Quicksilver PWC oil OK to run in the 94 ski as well?

I am guessing the search for oil is just too short to turn up anything. Browse the forums and you will see it all over. The PWC Quicksilver is fine in both of them. 94 & 96

If you can find it the Mystik JT4 full synthetic works well, and is cheap (i pay $19 per gallon). I get it at Academy sport and outdoors, and it can be purchased straight from Mystik for about $22 per gallon.
