Today I thought I would repack my trailer wheel bearings and place one of those bearing buddies on while I was at it. Piece of cake right? Wrong. Got the nut and outer bearing off with no problem. When I tried to take the hub off, it would not budge. Ended up having to pound the thing off which ended up blowing the inner seal so that I could finally slide the hub off. Then, it turned out the inner bearing was on the spindle so tight that I had to use an air chisel to get the thing off. Of course, that blew the bearing to shreds.
Does anyone know if this is normal? I have changed a lot of bearing on cars and never had a problem like this. Will the replacement bearing have to be pounded on while it is in the hub? That seems really strange and I am afraid it will damage the new inner bearing. Also, what is the best way to determine the correct bearing size? The trailer is a See Doo trailer and the boat is a 95 Sportster. I think it is the original trailer.
Any help would be appreciated. Thx
