Wheel Bearing Stuck - Anyonw Had This Problem

Today I thought I would repack my trailer wheel bearings and place one of those bearing buddies on while I was at it. Piece of cake right? Wrong. Got the nut and outer bearing off with no problem. When I tried to take the hub off, it would not budge. Ended up having to pound the thing off which ended up blowing the inner seal so that I could finally slide the hub off. Then, it turned out the inner bearing was on the spindle so tight that I had to use an air chisel to get the thing off. Of course, that blew the bearing to shreds.

Does anyone know if this is normal? I have changed a lot of bearing on cars and never had a problem like this. Will the replacement bearing have to be pounded on while it is in the hub? That seems really strange and I am afraid it will damage the new inner bearing. Also, what is the best way to determine the correct bearing size? The trailer is a See Doo trailer and the boat is a 95 Sportster. I think it is the original trailer.

Any help would be appreciated. Thx

This happens a lot of the time. I'm a Drawtite Dealer. I would take the hub with the nut and the parts you have and go to Auto Zone and ask for a new set of bearings and seal. The new ones should slide on without any problems. Use water proof grease as it holds up better also. If you have done this before then you'll have no problem re-packing the bearings and re-installing the new parts.

Many thx. Got the new bearings and they slid right on. Got the marine grease and the bearing buddies. Should be in good shape for now. Many thx for the advice.

car wheel bearings don't do that because by the time you are up to your axles in salt water you probly aren't worried about your wheel bearings.
