What to do? Opinions/Thoughts

I got myself into some jet ski's that need motors in both.

Some history,
I got a 96 GTI 3 seater 600 w/trailer. It has the 717 twin carb which if I keep it will be converted to single carb.
The second is a 95 xp also with the 717 for 550.

Here are things I'm weighing.

1. Engine of ski one is pretty bad. It is a SBT rebuild with expired warranty. It would a need new MAG and PTO. That makes it more expensive. It also needs a drive shaft, engine mounts and steering cable.

2. Engine from xp in better shape but still needs top end and bottom end cleaned. It ran before the piston top shattered for a good 20 mins.

3. Crank will probably need rebuilding/replacing on ski one. Not sure if crank needs rebuilding/replacing on number two. Both have metal fragments from piston.
If replaced it will be a hot rod for 600 if it can be rebuilt its ~300. Then there are the remanufactured for ~300.

4. Was thinking options as to who will build it. If all new parts crank/top end and it entails bolting things in, I can do that myself. If it rebuilding and truing crank than experts are needed and it would better to have engine replaced/repaired. I 'm going with FB vs SBT b/c to many horror stories from them. They have the top end kits for $285 but a full build is 950. The difference of 665. I assume the difference are the parts and labor of putting crank and rebuilding bottom and top end together.

If I keep skis and get ~2k invested in engines I'll have two good skis for another 10+ years if I take care of them for just over 3K

or

Sit on the parts and get back as much as the 900 dollars I'm out after selling trailer????

Thoughts??

If I had them I'd break and sell the parts. "Part out" I think you call it over there.. Electrical problems can be a pain on ski's over 10 year old.
If they have been in salt water the copper wires and terminals go bad. You should get your money back on parts. In my opinion.

It's hard to say.

As above... you may have a lot of other, unknown problems after you get the engines together. Before committing to a rebuild, figure out if everything else is working.

Parting out a ski can make you a bunch of $$$.

Thanks for the comments.

With regards too electrical problems the 96 gti is untested. Thats why I would go with new stator/flywheel.
The xp was starting up just had piston failure.

I could get one fixed and try it in both skis or if I can get someone to test MPEM of GTI to make sure it work...

The thing with parting I need to sit on the parts for how ever long it takes to sell.....

How much would I expect to pay to remove mag/pto??

Engine of xp crank spins freely but I know has metal fragments.
The GTI has resistance when I try to turn it.

Looking towards trying to salvage it.

The xp needs a rebuild 300 and cyl head. Old MAG side chewed up pretty bad. The bottom end?? We'll see when I crack it...
The GTI is either remanufactured crank for 260 plus 300 top end for around 600 or save for the Hot rods crank?? Opinions??

a little update.
I found a shop to get mag/pto off and split the case for 80 bucks.
They will tell me the extent of the damage of the first engine in the gti. But if rebuildable ~700 with new top end and crank.
Hopefully the second engine theres no damage to the crank from piston fragments and its $400 to but back together with new pistons.
