Hi, I went and got the syn oil today(remember me from a few days ago),
anyway what size motor came in a 1996 gtx? This one has a 787 in it.(looking a tag on aft end of engine)
The Vin number has 5640 on it. Has the motor been swapped??? When talking to parts guy about oil, he seemed suprised when I said 787. Just wondering. I just bought the ski and now i'm wondering if seller may have kept some secrets? And i am on the road to repairs. thanks, Janet

Looking at some manuals I have I found that the 96 GTX came with a 787.1 engine. Hope this helps :)

Synthetic oil!

Just a quick note, I've found that Wally World (Walmart) sells the synthetic blend for Seadoos along with other PWC........it's a lot cheaper than buying if from a distributer..........It's the Quicksilver brand, but listed on the back to be the "low ash" blend that most sea doo Rotax engines need. Check it out, read the back of the bottle, save yourself a few bucks

96GTXGirl VIN!

I just noticed that you referred to your GTX motor by what you read on the VIN....
The number you found, 5640, is the model number. If you were at a shop, looking for parts on a 1996 GTX, the dealer may ask you for what model? Then you'd know, it was the 5640. The 5640 was the only model GTX made that year.
Also, you referred to the "VIN"...PWC's really don't have VIN's, They are equipped with two different sets of numbers. The H.I.N...which stands for hull identification number, which is located (standing in back of the ski) on the far right hand side of the hull. The last two digits of the number represent the model year, the 3rd from right represent the actual production year and the 4th from right represent the actual production month. All others make up the complete serial number.
The engine has the "EIN"...which is the engine identification number, which can be found on the forward end stamped on the magneto housing, except for the 787 models, it's stamped on the PTO housing.
Hope this is something you can use!.........Happy jetting!

Keep in mind that some folks call the 787 an 800. So that might be part of the confusion.

Can you give me a rundown like this for the engine number?
