What kind of oil?????

Ok, I got some cable and a little wire saver thing from Home Depot. Got the broken cable out and started to heat the end up to reuse the ball on it. Didn't happen, must of got it too hot, it just disappeared. So, I fished my new line through the junction and I used a brazing rod to melt a little ball of copper on the end of the cable using oxy/act torch, hope it holds. I did a test one and put it in the end of a vise and pulled really hard and it didn't come off so hopefully I'm good. Measured the to the end down to the pump disk and cut the cable, put the wire stop on and cranked it down. It is working off the throttle cable, but the manual is talking about aligned mark on it but I have no clue what that is b/c the pic in there looks like they drew a line and I cant see what there talking about. Any thoughts about aligning it? Do you think that copper ball will hold good enough?

Sounds like you got it a little too hot...oops...The line on the pump is a small line punched in the pump and the disk as it is at almost closed position. look real close, it's there. The cable MUST respond exactly in sync with the carbs. Be sure the ball fits perfect and isn't gonna come off. The cable cover goes together real good and tight and won't fail. If your even a little doubtful go to plan "B"...premix., till you can get another cable.

Thanks man. I gotta new cable coming but it wont be here till May 27 or 28. I really wanna go out this holiday weekend. If I wanted to premix I would have to take the pump out and all that mess right. One more thing Karl, how do you pull off those lines going from the pump to the carb. Do they pull off the pump side?

Yes, they should pull off the pump side. If you go premix...after you change the oil out leave the pump and lines to carb intact. Under the oil injector is the shaft that turns the oil pump take that out and re-install the pump. The little bit of oil in the lines won't hurt anything if it does go into the engine...but at least it won't suck any air into the carbs, and it would have the proper oil in it. That could happen if you remove the lines all together. Leave the oil pump's cable unhooked too if you do premix mean time.

Anybody know how to get the clamp off the oil line going to the pump. Looks like it was pressed on there on something.

The pliers are called caillau pliers. Just cut off the clamp with side cutters and replace with a regular stainless steel clamp.

Almost there

After my long journey through oil pumps, home made cables, and 2 stroke oil, I think I got it. Fixed my cable and changed the oil today. Bleed the lines and everything you told me to do. Only thing was when I pulled the lines of the pump going to the carb there was no oil in them. The manual says if you don't then run the engine with the pump disk open for a minute to get air out, which I did. Does that oil in the carb lines drain back in the pump or are they supposed to remain full when it isn't running? I tested the pump like you said by running the seadoo i saw oil spurting out the pump. Am I good to go?

The lines can't have any bubbles in them or it will seize up in a very short time! The oil lines must have oil in them. With the pump running at full oil and it spurts oil, then it should pump oil through the lines to the carbs,( this is kinda priming the lines). Can you take the lines off and blow through them? If you use the injector pump. It must have oil in the lines from the injector to the carbs. Only run it for a short time and on the water hose. Remember not to rev it up while getting oil to the carbs.

yeah i didn't rev the engine up, just opened the lever up while it was running. I know the pumps working, wonder why the lines didn't hold in them. Something with the check valve on the res. tank? I didn't try blowing on them, I don't even know if I can get my head in there to try it. What does that do?

I just figured it might have something stuck in the lines. You have to get oil into the lines to the carbs...The pump directly feeds the lines to the carb. the pump holds the oil in the lines.

Thanks

Hey Karl. Thanks for all the help and advise. I took my XP out last weekend with my home made braised cable and new oil and had nothing but fun. This thing is really fast. I also replaced the fuel baffle and now the gauge works great. It ran so good all weekend so hopefully it will continue that way all summer. Thanks again for the help. :hurray:

I just bought a '97 GSX, the previous owner said he used See Doo oil, the low oil light came (looked like the oil tank was still almost half full) but I got Amsoil at the local Marina and poured in less than a quart and ran the jetski for about an hour - it ran fine Then I read all the posts here about never mixing oils and am concerned. I talked to a service tech at a local SeeDoo dealer who said not to worry about it, mixing that small amount of oil would not hurt anything. In fact he said if I just let the SeeDoo oil in there now get down to about 2 inches full I can just fill it the rest of the way with Amsoil and continue to use Amsoil. This advice seems to contradict with what I'm reading on this forum. Can someone who really knows please advise if I'm ok or what should I do? Thanks!
