What is the difference between an XP and a other models?

Been looking at a lot of models and specs, and it seems like the 98-99 XP and GSX Ltd models, asw ell as some other model years, are basically the same, with just a bit of different bodywork, is that correct?

They use the same engines, and hull, so just wondering if there are any other differences in them?

I just looked at a 96 GTX that has the same motor as the XP, and other than it being a bit longer (for a 3rd passenger?) it seems pretty much just like an XP.

You are correct a lot of SeaDoo's are mechanically the same, however there is a big difference is the way they handle and ride. A 96GTX is a big ski, a true 3 passenger ski, it's a cruiser if it were a motorcycle kinda like a Harley. The 96XP is much smaller ski more nimble, in my opinion more fun to ride, faster, lighter, a one person ski with room for two, if it were a motorcycle it would be a dirt bike.

Since I noticed you have a 96XP, take the 96GTX for a ride you'll notice a big difference.

The letters. Mostly. One has an "X" in the name, but so does the GT "X", but the GT stands for Super Awesome while the X stands for silent but deadly.

Theres all sorts of differences...but for the most part they are all the same parts wise.

But ride wise they are all different. 96 xp is ~400lb....96 GTX ~850...

96 GTX is 578 lbs, very stable ski, you can still do 360s on it but it's not as easy as with a smaller ski. top speed w/ the dream-o-meter is about 55-58 with stock equipment.

duly noted that its 55 mph on the dream o meter. In reality its lucky to hit 51.

Thanks Lou. I haven't ridden my XP yet, I just picked it up last Saturday in Ohio and got it running on Monday. It's really cold here, but I'm thinking of dropping it in the water and putter around the cove a bit this weekend, that way I can address any other issues while I'm working on it over the winter. I'd hate to work on it over the winter and then the first day that I really want to ride it in the spring, find out that there was something else that I could have fixed over the winter. lol

In other words look at the weights that Minnetonka provided. That should tell you a lot when you factor in power to weight ratios. XP=hang on when you grab the throttle! Lou's analogy is pretty much spot on ie. Harley vs. dirt bike. :cheers:
