3mm is the thinnest. I'd go with a 5mm.

Back zippers normally stay dryer inside the suit from front splashes but are harder to get into.

Many of the front zip models have a flap that helps seal better .

Have you looked into a full suit also. Ive got shorty type and I dont really use them that much at all imo they dont help but I do have the thinnest. I ended up buying a full wetsuit and the blacktip boots from wcss when they had 50% off and that helped extend my season. Last year me and a friend were the only ones in the water hunting season had already started and we were fine. Then those end of season days that the temps spike to mid 70's and the waters low 60's then you can still ride without freezing

Shortys are great for nearing the end of the season.

Full suits are also good but I ONLY use them very early on and very late in the season.

I am an avid scuba diver so I have plenty to choose from.

I guess your right now that I think of it Coastiejoe there has been times when I had full suit on and was sweating. Times I didnt have any on and wished I had shorty on. There are a lot of people that wouldnt want to wear a used wet suit at all but if it doesnt bother you then im sure you can buy both used for less then $100

I bought a like new large yesterday from my neighbor for 10 bucks.

I threw it in my jet ski trailer biz just to have it.

Couldn't pass it up.
