Water regulator replacement

my 1997 challenger 1800 is getting a new water regulator. The new part number is 276000134. When putting it on I noticed that the red cap is in a complete different position from the old one. The old one the red cap is slightly below level with the black cap. The new one the red cap is 1/8 inch above the black cap. I just didn't know if since it crosses to a new part number should I change the new one to the old setting or leave it alone?

It should be flush with the top of the cap, maybe one or two turns in. I would adjust the new one.
