Water in Hull 1998 Seadoo GTX LTD, bailers ?

Hey everyone,

finally finished up the ski and took it for a water test runs perfect. I rebuilt the carbs with genuine oem mikuni kit, replaced fuel selector with wsm one, replaced all fuel lines etc.. rebuilt rave valves, rebuilt jetpump with oem everything from bearings to new double lip seal etc.. even a skat trak 13/19. Sealed the jetpump with “the right stuff” among many other things.

anyway i noticed when i took it for a water test after 10-15 minutes there was about a 3/4 of a cup of water in the hull… im not sure where it is coming from i know its not the seal carrier as i replaced it with OSD marine one and checked it and there was 0 coming from there. I suspect my bailers are somehow throwing water back in rather than sucking it out, is this even possible ? I went back to look at my jetpump i had replaced all the white o rings on 3 bailers ? I know there is 2 bailer tubes and there is one beside them not sure if thats also a bailer or something else?

I noticed that the bailers font full go up against the hull… (pics attached, you can see the white o rings is this normal ?

I really need help locating where this water is coming from as it makes me nervous taking the family on it.

any help is really appreciate

I would, take the pto cover off, back the ski into the water, see if the pto leaks, then start it up, see if the pto seal leaks,,,then with the motor running, pull the bailor pickups, and see if water is coming into the ski.,also,,I assume the water was cold/lake temp and not warm coming from the engine.

I doubt the pto is leaking as i replaced the seal carrier (bearing and double lip sealed and carrier preassembled) with an OEM+ one from OSD and greased them as well i checked when i was at the lake it didn’t look to be leaking there… bone dry under the driveshaft when i ran my finger under the driveshaft with ski off. Tbh i didnt check the temp of the water. But for some odd reason im suspecting the bailers as i see water inside of them, that should have been sucked out..
 
I think i might have just found the problem… i believe i put the bailer o rings backwards and its not sealing 100% so no vaccum pressure is being created and instead of them taking water out they are doing the opposite… looks like i have to remove jet pump and reseal and flip those o rings around not gonna be fun since i put on “the right stuff”
 
Never mind still chasing the issue as i just removed the bailers… thank god no need to remove whole jet pump as its sealed with “the right stuff”… those o rings go on one way … so i did it correctly the first time … which means im still chasing this leak

any help is appreciated!

I'm not sure what the right stuff refers to, but you can install/remove the jet pump all day long. It's just 4 nuts and a rubber lip seal...

go for a ride with the seat off and check for water coming from anywhere. maybe a missed hose? the one under the pipe is fun. there's 3 on the pipe total I think? 1 large, 2 smaller. It's been a while.

The 98 was a weird year unfortunately and does not use a rubber seal, instead it calls for permatex “the right stuff” oil resistant sealant instead of a typical neoprene seal. Once sealed the jetpump is quite difficult to remove and to scrape all that gasket material off. Anyway its not the pump it was done properly im sure of it. Its gotta be something else ill have to go early morning to the lake when no one is there and stay near the dock as i do my investigation with the seat off
 
The 98 pump is a weird pump its the only year that used that pump was changed slightly again in 99 to fit a neo seal. The 98 does not have hull through fittings instead it lays against the hull with washers in between that seal it those washers call for loctite 518 on them, very weird design in my opinion
 
Oh, the manual for my 98 Spx says to put a neoprene seal on for the wear ring and right stuff for the 2 bailer fittings and 1 cooling fitting that go into the hull.

Yeah its super weird if you look at the shop manual the jetpump drawing for the 98 GTX pump is not correct, if you look at the parts diagram it has the correct ones shows there is no neo seal for the 98 GTX pump and instead they use “the right stuff”. I have a whole thread about it and did sooo much research before doing it
 
Leak is all fixed, turned out my bailer lines were plugged and instead of taking water out they were bringing it in. After some cleaning, and a full day at the lake. There was maybe a teaspoon of water in the hull… which i consider to be normal
