Hey all, 2006 Gti Se 130 has been sitting unused since 2019. It started fine to my surprise but when i turned the water on, after about 10 or so seconds the engine alarm came on. I turned the water off and shut the ski down waited a few minutes and tried starting again. No go compression locked all 3 cylinders full off water, pulled the dipstick and water in the oil too. Any ideas on where to start looking would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers BJ.

For some reason there wasn’t enough exhaust pressure with the engine running to keep the water out of the exhaust and and intake systems when you turned the hose on. My guess would be something split open from water freezing in one of the systems or a critter got in somehow, and made a nest and blocked your exhaust.

Your intake and exhaust systems need to come off now and be drained so hopefully you will find the answer.

I have no logical explanation for what you experienced. A running ski means air is entering the cylinder, and exhaust gasses are exiting the cylinder. If anything is plugged significantly on the intake or exhaust, the engine stops running - or wouldn’t start. How water could enter the cylinder on a running ski thru the exhaust is difficult for me to imagine or explain. I feel bad for you - I have been there in Feb/March of this year. But my water intrusion was thru the intake and explainable.

There is specific repair instructions in the shop manual for water in the engine to follow. If you want to read my creative repair journey to getting back on the water, see my posts from Feb/March. I was able to save and still enjoy my ski after salt water intrusion and even sitting for a couple weeks. Was just out last week and still running great. Good luck to you!

Ok, this is a bit embarrassing, but, after checking my cctv footage, when the engine check alarm went off, I turned the ski off and did not turn the water off. I then tried to restart but it was compression locked.
So does that mean for those few seconds it was off, the cylinders filled with water.

No something else is wrong, you were probably pumping water into the intake with the engine running. Was there water coming out the back of the ski with the hose connected and the ski running?

Yes, I have since flushed the engine a couple of times with clean oil and it seems to be fine now.
However after a minute or two of running I get a long beep and the engine check come on. Any idea on how to fault find this problem.

Happy days, problems solved. Changed the 2 year old fuel with fresh stuff, put her in the river and it performed perfectly. Big thanks for all the input and for me, lesson learned.

Check your exhaust manifold at the out end pull the hose make sure there is a 2 to 3 inch long casting that the exhaust separates from the water. They have been an issue.
