Hi Everyone

I am new to this and hope I am posting in the right section.

I have owned my 94 Seadoo XP for 4 Years and recently had my engine rebuilt top to bottom after it detonated from crank problems.

I want to re-install the engine soon but would like to disable the oil injection system an run a mixed fuel just because I would feel more comfortable knowing its getting oil.

So my other questions are:

1- Am I crazy for even thinking of doing so ?

2- If not what precautions should I take ? (ie: what to do with oil lines and pump.)

3- What would be the fuel/Oil ratio ?

Thanks

Chris

fuel

First off, before you install your new engine please take the time and replace all your fuel lines. Get rid of all the gray lines and install new black fuel lines; the gray lines break down internally and clog filters and carbs and could leave you stranded on the lake. Second, I run my ski on pre-mixed fuel and run a little less than a quart of 2 stroke oil to 10 gal. of fuel, which would be a little less than a 40:1 ratio. This was already done before I bought my ski. What the guy did not do before he sold the ski was to properly tie-off the oil line. If you have the space and the time before you intall the new motor empty the oil canister and then zip tie the line out to something out of the way. Hope this answers your question(s).

crazy

You're not crazy, this way you "know" your engine is getting oil. If you can look up the oil to fuel ratio somewhere else I would suggest that, but that's what I was told to run. Maybe someone else will clarify.

Thanks for the advice.
I forgot to mention that it is a ROTAX engine and heard that the rotary valve needs oil from resevoir to lubricate it.....is this true?

the valve assy in the case needs lubed, whivh, you leave the resivoir in there, but cap off the line with filter in it. 40/1=5gals with 16oz of oil. I recommend the block-off kit, you eliminate the pump intirely and the gear inside the manifold, but, people tell you otherwise, just to cap that filter line, and your done..BUT leave the oil in resivoir...this still lubes the case/rotary assy.

another version of a block off kit; take the rotary valve off. remove gear from back of pump. put rot valve back. take the filter out of the oil line and replace it with something solid. i like spark plug tops. then tie-wrap the line up higher than the tank. your math is a little off, tim. 128 ounces to a gallon. 5 gal is just over 600 ounces. you would be mixing at 150:1. 3 oz per gal is a bit thinner than 40:1.
