Anyone have any suggestions on what make/model to get for a wake board and some good links/locations to buy from?

I'm not looking for anything top of the line nor am I looking for some cheaply made board either. A decent entry level board and bindings for myself (6', 180lbs, shoe size 10).

Any suggestions and tips are welcome and greatly appreciated!

that height/weight..take gander at 140cm/142cm board...did some homework few months back, as for style, i got mine from ebay/bindings from craigslist, have 80 buks in my gettyup.

Ebay and Craigslist are your friends...
The basic's you need to know....
Being 6'0" 180lbs+ and size 10 puts you on a wakeboard thats 138-144
Your binding size should be a L/XL (read their sizing).
Right now I would look to stay in the 250-500 for a nice entry level to intermediate level setup....
I have a 141 hyperlite Bside with CWB Vapor hinge bindings (XL) Im 6'0 195 size 11. (Mid Level I was able to get the board 50% ($450 down to $225) and bindings for $229 (2 yr warranty, no questions asked), this is my 2nd setup. I out grew my beginner setup rather faster and it was a hyperlite apex 142 with Hyperlite remix bindings (Complete setup for $400 Brand New, DUMB MISTAKE).

Ill link a few setups that I would look at...
Remember you will pay more for new stuff, when some slightly used or Demo'd boards are well worth it, bindings I would buy brand new and hold on to your receipt for EXCHANGES they will break and tear on you fast.....
Id look around locally on Craigslist and board shops in your neck of the woods...

I do agree thats insane, but some people dont buy used and get NEW stuff..
My first setup was a Gift and I had no hand in picking it out, the chump at the board shop suckered the step parents into it and who was I to disagree on freshly wrapped presents......
I am a true believer in Demo'd gear, 50% the sticker due to a blem or a small nick, Sign me up..

wakeboards

I currently ride a ronix ibex 144 excellent board its a three stage rocker, gives you a ton of pop of the wake. As far a bindings go my favorite is by far the CWB Zeus best binding I've tried yet. Do your self a favor and by a good set of bindings that fit right because you can put them on any board and its a lot easier to cut and jump when feet can tell the board what to do.

I ride a 140 Hyperlite Murray with Murray bindings. Its a little on the expensive side but that ride is incredible. I agree with Silde00, definitely get a good set of bindings they are the key to a good ride.. Maybe a good board to look at is the Hyperlite Motive. That is what i rode when i first learned to wakeboard.

Bindings are key.

I have two sets of old hyperlite bindings both of which are high performance (Parks and Temmets) but they are so ridiculously difficult to take off in the water that it really makes my day unenjoyable.

After doing some research I've come to the conclusion that CWB is putting out the best bindings in terms of general comfort support, and very importantly to me, easy entry/release (usually you gotta sacrafice this for support) I just purchased a CWB Pure wakeboard with CWB Torq bindings w/ hinge tech from ebay for $227. They should be coming in the mail tomorrow so I'll get to see just how legit they are soon.

Bottom Line from what I've learned, Get CWB bindings with hinge tech and you'll be happy.

Here are some examples of what you can find on ebay for good prices.

But whatever you do, I highly recommend that you double check the reviews on said product by going to wakeworld.com and looking at what other people have said about the board your interested in. (the review section is at the top left, you can see reviews for bindings/wakeboards but some of the newer stuff hasn't been tried out quite yet) Alternatively, you can just type into google "_____wakeboard with ____bindings Reviews" and see if you find people that know about that product.

I got the FAZE 141 model from Academy for $150. REally nice bindings, if nothing else, so I can transfer them to another board if I ever decide to swap boards.

CWB brand.

Never done wakeboarding before, and got up first time with it, and never fallen in 6 trips out. I am 6' and was 200 first trip, and now around 195 lbs.

That looks like a pretty good set up to me. Not a hole lot of reviews, however all the ones i was able to find were very positive. Looks like you found a winner.

Yeah thats a pretty legit set-up...

As a general rule you can't really go wrong with Hyperlite or Liquid Force (for the most part anyway)

The vario boots are the cheapest boots they made that year so you always gotta be a little cautious with respect to that but reviews show that they worked fine and if your a beginner then they are totally good for at least 2 seasons

However, a 132 size is most likely going to be a problem for you. There is an off-chance that your riding style favors a smaller board, but more realistically you're probably going to need a bigger board, 142-144 (you could maybe get away with a 138). And also, a bigger board is (for most people) easier to learn on.

So yeah, good setup, good price (nice free shipping) but not quite the best choice in terms of size.

That CWB Thunderkat posted is way nice and actually for a pretty good price. I'm a big fan of the technology CWB put into their bindings.

But yeah as mentioned before, go to wakeworld.com and review any setup you find to ensure your satisfaction!

I was going to comment on those boots. Pretty cheesy.

The ones I got WITH my $150 board/binding combo looked more like these...VERY comfortable and secure.

I think mine was a 2007 model with a little differetnt (and better looking) bindings.
