Wake 215 Sucked and spit

Just picked up the wakepro in March brand new. This is our first experience with jet drive, been around outboards all our life.

Wife and I went out on the river for supper last evening. As we were leaving the docks in some fast flowing water I started to accelerate and then heard something rattle around under the boat and then felt it fire it's way out. The wife noticed behind some debris of small sticks and chunks of wood in the water. The wake lost performance for about 2-3 seconds and then regained it as whatever was underneath cleared.

The doo seems to accelerate normal with no vibrations or anything noticeable. When I got it back home on the trailer I figured I would take a peek underneath at the impeller and see if I could see anything.

These are the pics:

The three small chips were not in the blades prior and the wear ring had slightly less scuffing. "Visually" the clearance from the blades to the Ring appear about the same. The wake has about 15hrs on it.

So is there anything I should do or check now? Anything I need to check in the pump itself before the next outing on the water? I'm figuring wait until performance or cavitation become a problem before I jump the gun on replacing parts prematurely just for the sake of it. Performance on take off and at speed does not seem to have changed. It ran fine down the river the rest of the ride home. Unfortunately parking it or towing it home was not an option as we were about 20kms from where our vehicle was parked.

In the event this happens again what can I do to clear objects from underneath?

On a plus note, this thing has been a blast and has been perfect for all the watersports at the cottage. Unfortunately maiden voyage on the river in the city brought about it's first hiccup and worry from a new owner.

Doesnt really look bad at all. I have worse dings on mine and it has never been a problem. If nothing has changed like you said, probably sucked up some debris and shot them out. In the future if this happens if for any reason you start getting any kind of vibration, hesitation, anything not normal. Then you want to shut off the motors as you can damage not only the pump but the driveshaft and motor. Anyways sometimes debris do get sucked in and tore up by the impeller. I wouldnt worry about it at time. Just make sure to look from the outide as well and see if you see anything at all stuck in there. If you do it needs to come out.

Motors? PWC's only have 1 motor last time I checked... what is this Wake thing then if not a PWC????

May be posted in wrong forum not familiar with the Wake PWC.

Didn't swallow?

Thanks for catching my double entendre lol

Wakepro 215 pwc.

If it was the boat it would be the Wake 230. (but I'm sure you know all of this already and are just grinding some gears :) )

I figure he just made a typo saying "motors" instead of "motor" in his response.

No I was serious actually... I Ebay'ed "Seadoo Wake" and only came up with boats. I'm more familiar with the RXT, RXP and GTX PWC models honestly. I thought this must be a boat like the Challenger.... my bad! Sorry.

Try google images instead of ebay ...

This small chips won't affect performance significantly, dings and bends do however and of course as the wear ring get's more damage it will start to cavitate but wear rings are cheap and easily replaced when the clearance becomes an issue.

Impellers can be sent off for repair when they get dinged up too badly, it's cheaper than buying a new impeller I wanna say around ~$30 or so plus s&h from the SBT shop. Your fine though for now enjoy the summer!

Sorry I did have the impression this was a boat and not a PWC.... many boat owners come here and post in the PWC forums by mistake I don't know why.

Thanks for the reply's guys. The performance out of the hole and at speed seemed the same on the way home. No vibrations or noises.

Gonna have to watch the fast flowing water more closely for crazy debris next time. I'm sure this won't be the last time something gets sucked. (There red2blue another pun)

This really has been a great purchase for us. Really enjoying the performance and multi-use of this machine.

Here's some pics of it:

Nice pics last 1 didn't upload fully but looks like a nice place you have there too! That rocky shoreline gives me the eeby-jeebies though!

Okay...I see something to beware of.....

Get the trailer deeper in the water before you ride the ski on or...get off the ski and manually winch the ski up into place. You don't understand the volume of water the intake will draw when under even minor load. These skis intakes are more than capable of lifting fist size rocks off the bottom of a concrete ramp.

Aside.....hows the pike, muskee and walleye fishing there? Looks like a beautiful spot.

I never ever drive my jet propelled watercraft off of nor onto the trailer, I always pull them on or off the trailer by hand then guide them out to the end of the pier or wade them out to chest deep water and drop the anchor, then go put the vehicle up then go back to the watercraft and untie or pull the anchor up and start the engine.

Red2Blue is absolutely correct these pumps will suck good sized rocks up from 2-3 feet below the intake. You should be in chest deep water before starting the engine everytime. Good point! And never EVER let anybody dangle their feet below the hull while the engine is running, for OBVIOUS reasons! I've seen people do the dumbest things and then cry out loud that they're going to sue because they got hurt... Grrrr!

The picture is deceiving. The rock cut where the trailer is parked drops off about 3 feet. it's an abrupt climb from the bottom. That's why the trailer is only parked that deep, any further and the trailer will be completely submerged. The trailer bottoms out before it completely drops off anyways. It's all smooth rock as well with no loose rocks. We use the rock for loading and unloading all our boats and will be making a ramp soon as my brother wants to load his Campion from there. We'll see how that goes since his boat and motor is a lot heavier then the other stuff. It may be a quad and winch to pull it.

We have since changed practice regardless loading and unloading at the ramp and shore. When we load it the wife drives up shuts it off and then I guide it up onto the trailer and then hand crank it. When we unload she is on the machine and then I push her off. Fires it when she is in deep enough water. Seems to work well. If I'm by myself unloading I just rock it free and then let the wind carry me to deeper water. Loading I give it gas and then shut it off and drift or paddle it to the trailer. I have chest waders from quading for the spring and fall when the water is unbearably cold for loading and unloading.

The fishing is great. We have quite a few unmanned lakes behind us that we haul a boat over through the bush with the quad and go fishing for the day. Really great walleye and northern's. Bass fishing has become more apparent in the last couple of years as they got introduced to a few of the lakes(unnaturally) although they are a blast to catch. We tend to do a lot of catch and release to let the populations recover.

Never back a see doo off the trailer my wife did and it somehow slipped into forward and she ran it up the trailer into the truck and up the ramp in about 2 seconds.. she could have lost a leg
