Vts problems

Hi, new to the site, I have a problem with my vts switch not working on my 04 speedster 200.
I have power , I have ground, but doesn't light up or work. at first I thought it was a ground issue because when I jump a ground to the switch it would light up and work. I have tested ground for continuity and were good. The wiring diagram I have isn't the same as my boat so I traced the wires and they lead me to the relay and the grate module (204 470 887) wondering if there is anyway they can be tested before I remove all the potting.

VTS? our boats do not have a VTS unless you are talking about the intake grate that moves to remove clogs?

Yes, i'm talking about the weedless system, I just replaced the motor because it was fried and the housing said vts on it. Same components but different function, I apologize

Not sure on testing the relay, I would try replacing the switch first, make sure all the fuses are good and you are getting a good 12v at the switch.

At the switch, there is 12 volts showing it's active (light circuit) and just a switch circuit. On my boat, I can pull off the switch and short it there. Not sure what switches are on your boat.

At the switch I have 4 wires a black and red for the light circuit and a black and green/white for the motor when shorted it works.
I have a service manual that has a schematic that shows 5 wires to the switch but it must be different for first generation.
With a multimeter it shows I have 12v on the red and the black on the light circuit, so to me something is back feeding on to the ground wire (black) starting to get frustrated.

It sounds like the light should be on. Is it? If you have 12 (ref to gnd) on both sides of the light then it should be on.

If you short the green/white then that is the same as completing the circuit and turning on the device. Once you do that then does the weedless system work? If simply could be a bad switch.

Thanks for the reply,
It seems I have 12v on the red and the black with the multimeter, but when I check with the test light, the test light only lights up when touched to the red. If I take a jumper wire and jump the black wire to ground the light on the switch lights up, does your switch light up when you turn on your nav. lights?
Like you said when I short the grn/wht to black the motor operates and the switch light comes on, when it is done its cycle the light goes off but will not work threw switch. I have taken the switch apart and it seems fine.
I think my problem is the black wire is being back fed with power some how.

Mine shorted out and kept on tightening until it snapped the grate cable on the right side. I took the fuse out and fixedd the cable. I never use it anyway. Even when it worked, i felt it was worthless.

So I figured out my switch problem, I feel very silly, I have been testing everything with the battery on but without the lanyard attached. accidently stumbled across it, so The lanyard must activate something.
Thanks to all of the replies, This is my first time on a forum and it is nice to have all the help.

I don't trust or use mine either, It wont help if I suck in a rope and we don't have weeds in the lakes here.
