I think i may be experiencing vapor lock?? I am a first time pwc owner and have no clue what the problem is. I run the jetski once its warm, u cannot turn it off because it takes a while to start. Once it cools down its easy and quick to start. Only when its been running for a while will it be hard to get goin again. Eventually drain the battery trying to turn it on. I checked battery replaced plugs put high octane gas no help! Ive been reading and think it may be vapor lock. Does anyone have a clue?

What model and year ski do you own? It makes a difference if it's a carbed, DI or RFI ski. Generally a carbed ski will not get hot enough to vapor lock, that is unless the engine is overheating.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Vapor lock is an impossibly on our skis.

1) We don't have any metal fuel lines that would soak enough heat to cause problems.
2) We run a pulse pump, that draws fuel from the tank. AND... when it's working... it will pull fuel with hoses that are full of air.
3) The fuel pump is internal of the carb.
4) We have a "Returning" fuel system... so any "Vapor" will be pushed back into the tank.

As Lou said... before we even try... we need to know what ski you have.

Thanks and hello Lou. Hello Dr Honda. My ski is a 2000, gsx rfi.
The problem happens everytime i go to lake! Once its been running difficult to turn back on and drains battery. If i let cool down for about 20 minutes after each run, itll start right back up.

Thanks for your help,
Johnathan

Since you have and RFI ski (Rotax Fuel Injection), I'm afraid I'm not going to be of much help. I do know the rfi models are easier to work on the the DI models.

The injectors could be leaking, and flooding the engine.

Does the engine run well until you shut it off, or does it die, and wont re-start?

Yes. It runs great until i turn it off. Then it has trouble turning back on. If i let it cool down for about 20 mins it will start up and run until i turn it off. Then same problem.

Hi, I just registered to this forum to investigate this exact problem.....

I have a 2003 GTI (carbs). Cold starts fine, runs well, plenty of power, brand new battery. We stop to change drivers and can't get it to re-start.

Seems like the starter disengages after a second or two but continues to spin freely as long as you are holding the button down. After many attempts it starts smelling gassey in the boiler room. Wait 20-30 minutes and it fires up fine.

Any Ideas to check?
Thanks,
T

you should start a new thread for your topic, but it is likely that you need a carb rebuild, with a new needle and seat. when the engine shuts off, the needles leak off into the carb and flood it. if you try holding 1/4 - 1/2 throttle while trying to start and it eventually clears the flood and starts, it all but confirms it. you should also check your compression and rotary valve clearance to be sure.
