I have a 97 seadoo GTI that’s been sitting up for a while. It was running fine with it was parked in the yard. I’ve had a guy ask me multiple times what I would take for it and I don’t know what to tell him. I don’t want to get screw the guy or get screwed myself lol. Anybody give any suggestions on what a fair asking price would be?

How long has it been sitting? If you want be fair to yourself and the buyer, get the ski running. Do a compression check. Put it in the water and ride it. For me, if a ski was running when it was parked means little. It is the now condition that matters. For me, I know it needs a top end and carb and fuel system rebuild (complete). Wear ring replaced maybe but jet pump oil change for sure.

Non-runing ski, body in good shape, electronics work with a trailer included I'm not paying over $500. Reason is, little maintenance was ever done and any repairs are likely jack leg and must be redone. Exhaust pipe leaks, etc.. I have yet to buy a ski that surprised me in a good way. LOL

Running ski, good compression looks good no reason you can't get $2500 or more for it with todays prices.
This is in my area. There are probably people that would be $3k for that ski.

Hope this helps a little.

It’s been sitting for about 15 years. And yes, I know I’m an idiot for letting it sit that long. My only issue with getting it running is the shops around here want a arm and a leg to fix it. And honestly, I don’t know a thing about fixing it myself. That’s why I asked about a “as is” price. I do appreciate your reply though. I know a shade tree mechanic that said he could work on them.. but he beats around the bush about it price wise and I know it’ll take him a year to do it. I guess I’ll check with him again and see what I can do.

Wow, that is a long time to sit. With the conditions you mentioned I'd advise you to sell the ski and buy another that is running and has had the engine replaced in the last few years. In other words a "well cared for ski that has been ridden regularly." Good Luck.

I had mine sitting for 9 years, I had to replace almost every hose (some of it due to a rat), and I replaced all the filters. I also rebuilt the carbs and cleaned out the oil and gas tank. New battery of course and a new coil plus wires. Just to give you an idea of what you "may" have to do to get it running.

If you are thinking about getting it running, first thing I would do is a compression check to make sure the motor is good. Another thing to look at is how many hours are on the motor, if it is high might be rebuild time anyway!

Just give it to him. Like you said, it will cost quite a bit to fix. You're lucky someone is interested in it after sitting for 15 years.

Buy a new battery and with the fuel OFF see if it cranks. If it does, Pull air box off and prime the carburetor with a little mixed fuel and see if it actually fires. If yes, empty the old fuel in tank and pump a few gallons of fresh gas in it. Turn fuel on. Now you’ll need water to it if your gonna run it longer than 10 or 15 seconds. Remember: ski on first then water or you’ll flood the cylinders with water. On shut down: water off ski off. If by some act of god the ski actually idles and throttle’s up, you can know say your selling a running ski. You can still be transparent about the history of the ski and the fact you haven’t actually had it in the water for 15 years.
Point being it’s easier to sell if it’s running at any level than not at all. You should post a few pics
