I had to drill out my fill plug. I only drilled a little hole for an easy out and from shining a light a don't see any chunks of metal in it. Do I need to pull the pump or can I flush it out with something to make sure?
Where did you drill?
The stator (thru the steering nozzle) or the gearbox (under the boat)?
Did you get the plug out? What was it made of? Usually bronze or stainless steel.
Removal of the stator is normal maintenance item. Better to remove and clean, than have water intrusion damage. be careful removing bolts- they can break if corroded into casting. There are posts here about loosening them-- CRC 6-56 Marine, LPS #1, WD-40, PB Blaster, ATF & acetone are some of the penetrating oils used.
