I wanted to post an update after I pulled the engine apart. It looks like the MAG rod did not bend, but the crankshaft bearing/crank has an incredible amount of slop in it. The rings were fine, so all of the metal that ruined the cylinder head and piston came from down below. I uploaded a video for your viewing pleasure.
It looks like even the PTO piston was starting to sieze up as the piston shows heavy scoring on the sides.
I found something interesting though, the rotary valve timing seems to be way off. This boat runs a 157* rotary valve and should be set to 147*. With the MAG piston at TDC the timing is set to 85*. Would the boat have run at all like this? I can't conclude whether the rotary valve stripped or spun when the engine took a dump or the timing has always been off. It was a bugger to start.
