Hey guys,

Still trying to get this 96 xp I picked up off a guy on the water.

He told me the oil I saw in the bottom of the seadoo was from when he removed the oil tank and spilled it. He had just completed the premix conversion.

Well it turns out he obviously lied. Yesterday I simple greened the entire inside and cleaned it all up nicely! I left the seadoo slightly tilted back to drain and clean it all out.

Fast forward to today, I looked in the bottom of the hull, and wouldnt you know, LOTS of oil! No water mixed with it, no simple green, just oil.
This was not there last night when I went to bed :banghead:

Soo, now I need to find where this is coming from.

Of course, the first place I checked was the oil hoses on the oil tank. It appears no hoses have oil on them, and the hull infront of the motor going up to where the oil tank is doesn't have much oil, other than left over residue from yesterday.

The oil appears to be showing up under the motor and dripping back, or somewhere that I cannot easily see anyways.

Previous owner said he clamped off the oil lines under the air box? I'm going to pull that off to see, but I thought I'd check here to confirm. Where should be the first place I look for an oil leak after someone has done a premix conversion? If it's not a simple leaky hose or clamp somewhere, would the motor leak it somewhere?

I thought I'd have a simple engine alignment to do this evening and now I found something else the seller lied about. Buyer beware out there folks! These guys are sketchy!

PS- I noticed that with the seadoo tipped back overnight, the amount of oil was much more than usual. When the seadoo is usually tipped forward I didn't notice AS much

Follow the hoses from the tank to both sides of the engine for the input and output of the rotary valve bath hoses. If there is a cut or loose clamp on either side of it it will leak oil and puddle under the engine.

I followed the hoses, and there's two possibilities. Either the previous owner was telling the truth and spilled oil all over in there, or its that bottom host under the engine that I can't get to easily because of the exhaust.

I've cleaned it up again now and going to monitor it to see if more keeps coming, if so it must be the hose I can't really get to.

That said, is there any way the oil could be coming from the actual engine casing itself on the underside? I haven't rebuilt one of these so I don't really know where the oil goes through the motor. I sure hope it's just a hose though!

I'll venture to bet it's the oil "return" line from the rotary cavity on the exhaust side. The one that is a pain to get to and can only be gotten to with the pipe off. Ask me how I know.............I must have knicked the line while tightening the hose clamp. Take your cell phone and from the back of the ski lower your phone down to the left of the engine serial plate, you will see a cap with a slot on it, right in line with that is where you want to aim. You'll see it.

There's also a low spot under the gas tank that will hold oil. There's a small bump there that will prevent the free flow of oil until the ski is tilted up. Just went thru this when I pulled the gas tank and oil tank for cleaning.

Oh interesting! Thanks for all the advice guys it's really appreciated! I think I'll clean up what I can see, and then I'll mark the oil line on the tank and see if my volume changes at all (it shouldn't if I premix right?)

That said, with the oil pump not working, how does the rotary actually flow oil to and from the tank?

If your crank and rotary seals leek a little which is common on higher hour motors they will use some oil.

I hear ya. Apparently, according to previous owner there is only about 5 hours on the rebuild. If that's true or not remains to be seen.

I'd the rotary seals and crank were leaking would it continue to do so while sitting in the driveway or would thst be more likely when the engine is running? Other than the 5 min test run when I bought it I haven't had it out yet. Too much stuff to fix first lol

Clean it all up, wrap a shop rag as high as you can on the rotary valve line you cannot fully reach and check it in a day or two. If it is leaking, the oil will run down the line and soak the shop rag.
