two-way radios

Does anyone use any two way radios? Since these things make a fair amount of noise does anyone use radios to communicate with another PWC? Obviously waterproof would be the key.

We carry them to communicate with the mothership. We don't use them while riding, so I don't know if you can hear them over the motor. I bet you could hear them squawk if you clipped it up near your shoulder on the flotation device. Then you could stop to communicate...

I bought a waterproof handheld marine radio from Overtons' a couple of years ago, it works O.K., but to tell the truth, at least for inland lakes, they're pretty much obsolete, cell phones have pretty much replaced them. Buy a cheap cell phone that will use your sim.

Easiest thing to get is any frs radios that uses a cell phone head set. Find cheap ones so that it doesn't matter if they get ruined in the water.

Cheap cell phones work the same way and use the same type of headsets. But you can get cheap phones on ebay that are waterproof. That's what I use.

Interesting to see this subject since my wife and I tried to do this just last weekend. All I can tell you is what did NOT work for us. We have a couple of Midland two ways that work great on their own, but we ordered and paid like $63 for a pair of Midland AVP-H8 headsets that have the 'Action Throat Mic Headset' with an inline VOX-PTT switch and the in-ear speaker. Big mistake! We tried everything we knew to try and we simply couldn't communicate.

Hmm, great input from all. I have a set of Motorola FRS radios. I may see if we have some cell phone hands free cords around and just try it. I am thinking to put the radios in the glove box or hood and just have the wires come up to our ears. I also stuck them in plastic zip bags and you can hear them and use the controls without problem. I guess it is just experiment time. I know motorcycles use the stuff, but it is under a helmet.
