Hi, I am just new to the whole PWC thing and have a 1999 Seadoo GTX ltd. The problem I have is that the ski starts well outside the water and also with the first few rides IN the water BUT is hard to start once the engine is warm.
The motor turns over just won't start. Some say I need a engine rebuild but it was done about 6 months ago and I have only done 5 hours with the new motor.

War & Peace The Saga of the Seadoo and the dodgy mechanic

Hey thanks for reply Timmyboy. I live downunder so there might be a difference in time to my reply. Yep checked compression. 115 in both cylinders...so thats a bit of a relief. But too ignorant to know what a reeds pedal is and whether it was replaced.
I guess I better fill you in: A mechanic I know swore to me that he knew all about 2 stroke and that he'd have a look at it. 4 bloody weeks later I get the thing back and it seems to me he hasn,t done a thing. took it out on the water, rode for about 30 seconds no real high revs and gut instinct told me something wasn't right. Pulled up, took off seat and hey presto the hull is half full of water. The d**k head had left the inlet hose to the motor off!!! Guess who won't being using the " mate 2 stroke's are easy to fix" mechanic anymore!!!LOL Re connected the hose, drained the hull and off we went. It ran well for 30 minutes when we started having the starting problems described in the previous thread. Turns out the rubber tube connecting the exhaust outlet manifold to the muffler has a hole in it and the hull is 1/4 way full this time. ( another fine pick up by super mechanic!!) and bear in mind I'm an absolute novice at this!! Took no more chances took it home dried it all up. Hoping this was why it was difficult to start. Now it starts really well but I'm hoping all will go well on the water!! Sorry for war and peace but the more I explain the better you might understand any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Fingers crossed

Hey Thanks timmyboy!

We will be going out in the next 2-3 weeks. It's winter in Melbourne so... it sux to be me.
The scary thing in Melbourne is that any marine / pwc mechanics are like bankers they see you coming and start rubbing hands together!!LOL
However I don't mind paying the money as long as the job gets done! Because I'm new it will take a season or 2 to find the right'honest' mechanic.

If you don't mind me asking what does the reeds pedal do?
