Hi,

I have bought a 1998 gsx seadoo with 250hrs on clock. i am new to jet skiing and already feel put off by the problems i have. ok here we go....

Display is saying 12v low have charged battery and reinstalled but still says 12v low, so bought new battery and installed same thing took it out charged both and again replaced still same thing thats problem 1.

Starting the beast is agro too as once she is started it is easier to start her each time. When starting i have to pull the choke out and give some throttle this usually takes about 45 secs and starts i am worried i might be flooding the engine though each time??

Took her down to the harbour got her started on the trailer in the water seemed fine, tooke her off trailer and progressed down harbour at 10mph still seemed fine? thought i'd give her a bit of juice to build the speed up and it felt like she stalled when i started to give more throttle, sorta spluttered and stalled wouldnt restart then. pulled the choke out and she started put the choke back in and stopped again, this happened about 10times in the end i had to drive her back with the choke out but again kept stalling, i know you shouldnt drive with choke out but wouldnt move otherwise. managed to get her in and onto land, so started her up to flush her out and ran fine, when she started to idle sounded like she was struggling and about to stall gave some throttle and was ok again.

Please help as dont really wanna pay a seadoo specialist yet.

Thanks

I would do a compression test to see what condition the internals of the engine are like first of all. Be sure the Battery wire connectors are clean and have a good connection. I suggest you remove and clean the carbs. Be careful not to damage the diaphragms inside. Pay attention to the small fine internal filters too. Use carb cleaner and compressed air to clean the internal journals. The High Speed adjustment should be set to "0". The plastic cap allows it to be adjusted 1/4 turn if needed. the Low Speed screw should be set at 1 1/2 turns. You may need to adjust the carbs after you run it to fine tune it. Be sure both carbs are in sync.

sorry its taken me a while, ok i did compression test on both cyclinders and both showing 155 psi which seems pretty normal. changed spark plugs for new ones and also cleaned fuel filter and bowl.
took it out again idled fine on water but as soon as i pulled throttle engine reved started to pick up speed and died after about 2 seconds.

Cleaned battery posts and all connectins am wondering if battery is not being charged by rectifier?? would that mean when throttle is pulled not enough juice in battery to carry out the task????

only thing i havent done is clean the carbs looks like a big job and i am no professional, can you suggest anything else before i try.

One more thing i have noticed i have grey fuel lines and lots of people are saying they ar not good whgy is this and what would it do to the ski??

Those need to go. They rot and junk up the carbs. Probably need about 25' of fuel line plus 30 stainless steel clamps. Takes a few hours to replace them all, while doing it clean out the fuel selector and the carb.

The battery isn't the problem. It is the gray fuel lines. Change the fuel lines one by one, but you'll have to tackle cleaning the carbs anyway. All the old crap is still stuck in the internal filters and clogging them up. This is the best advise I can give you.

Your problem is definitely the filters in the carbs... they are not hard to clean, just a pain to get off in that ski. the mag side can be cleaned by just removing the four screws on the fuel pump side of the carb but the PtO carb will have to be removed and done in the same manner.

clean those filters before you run it again... every time you run it you are leaning the engine out and causing a seizure.... scoring the walls and ultimatly destroying the engine.
