The new LR-505 is an updated unit. I think the actual REAL number is a LR-505-3. From my understanding... there have been no failures of the new one. BUT... when you install it in the electrical box, it's mounted on an aluminum plate. Make sure you have some heat transfer grease under it.

Doc, Just received in my LR505 and installed today along with a new battery. Now I am reading close to 14 volts to the battery when running so I know the unit is working. Now I have another issue it seems, My tach and speedo only work intermittently, prior to changing the LR505 they were fine. Is there a wire in the electrical box I may have loosened or disconnected inadvertently? Also I am still having the stalling issues... Once I get the ski on plane and moving pretty good 35-45MPH(3/4 throttle) if I give it full throttle it dies. It doesnt feel like a lack of gas issue because it doesn't sputter out, its just on, then off. As I coast to a stop If I press the start button it fires right up and will do the same exact thing a few minutes later. I did notice my battery terminal came loose when I was trouble shooting on the water, when I re-tightened the leads it was somewhat better and only cut off here and there. So I was thinking maybe I have a bad ground or connection somewhere.. How many grounds should be on the motor and can I hook up an additional ground to see if this helps? Where would be a good spot to put an extra ground anyway?

Thanks again for all your help

Sure... you can add extra grounds. The engine has a bunch of good bolts to run a wire to. Just pick one.

The tach and speedo are separate issues.

TACH: That is hooked directly to the stator coils. So... since it was working good before... I'd say one of the bullet connectors in the electrical box is loose... or the wires in that plug are burnt. (like mine were) Now that your LR-505 is working... the extra current may be over-loading the corroded wires in the plug. It's real easy to check... just give the wires a tug. As soon as I pulled on mine... one of the yellow wires came out.

Speedo: The speed on the Polaris is a pressure device. There is a hose going from the back of the gauge to the beginning of the jet pump tunnel. The water fitting is right were the intake grate bolts to the hull. It is common for that hose to:

1) Fall off of the fitting in the hull or the gauge
2) Get brittle and crack. (since it's under the driveshaft)
3) Get plugged up with sand and junk.

I would start by taking it off the back of the gauge, and just blow though it. If you haven't figured it out... when you lift the hood, there is a black plastic cover behind the gauge... and it has your tool kit in it. If your tool kit comes loose... it can pop that hose off. Last thing on that... if you are riding, you can get a hunk of grass (or whatever) covering the water pick up, and the speedo will just stop working until you stop, and it falls off.

Can you ease into the throttle, and get the RPM's up? Have you tried to pull the choke up a little? my personal feeling is that it's a fuel issue. On the Polaris... there is an accelerator pump... and I know when I got mine... the pump nozzles we plugged up. If they are... the engine won't respond... or it will die, when opened quickly. Just take the filter cover off, and look inside, and pump the throttle a few times. You should see the squirt of fuel. When you take the air filter off... pull the coke closed. in the filter cover, there is 2 stand offs, and the may fall out. if you close the choke... the won't accidentally fall down into the engine.

only was able to test in the garage today, my jeeps down for a few days and wont get into the water til the weekend unfortunately,I think I fixed the speedo, the line was blocked as you suggested. I didnt find any loose wires in the electric box that I noticed but the tach is working, so must of been a bad connection I missed. I will check the plugs further tomorrow, ran out of time today. I opened the air cover and I do see the fuel squirting in pretty good, doesnt appear clogged. I wasnt able to get the ski to stall today, but only ran it on the hose for a few minutes, when I had the problem on the river yesterday it didnt make much difference if I feathered the throttle or punched it, seemed to all of sudden die when it hit around 3000-4000rpm(but my gauge was intermittently working, so may have been higher or loser as well) Press the start button and would fire right back up, without needing gas, so I thought maybe a loose ground or something electrical.

........ so I thought maybe a loose ground or something electrical.

It could be. You had the electrical box open, and you can see how the mount everything. Also... I would pull, clean, and tighten all the connections in the electrical box.

Opened the electrical box today, cleaned, renewed dielectric grease, and tightened everything up. Spark plug wires and the connector wires were all in good shape. The spark plug wires were a pain in the ass to put back on the CDI module, (not much room to work) but no corrosion and tight. Main plug was good as well. I did find a loose ground... one of the allen key bolts that hold one of the 3 grounds on top of the LR505 module was stripped and ground loose. Relocated the ground and put everything back together. I was only able to run on the hose today, but RPM gauge is back up and was able to run through the RPM range without stalling. Ill check in the water this weekend. Did take a few times to get started after putting everything back together.

Looked over the fuel lines again and all looks well that I can see. Checked the accelerator pump again and it was spraying in all 3 carbs when throttle was applied, choke is working properly, and fuel lines are all new and fuel was flowing. I adjusted the idle up a little until it idled showing 1 bar, as it wasn't showing any bars at idle on the gauge today, I may have adjusted the idle down by accident when putting on the new fuel lines last week.

One last thought... and I don't remember if you did it or not.

BUT....

Polaris has the same crap Tempo fuel lines that SeaDoo uses. Does your ski still have them? (they are gray) If you do... you need to replace all of them, and clean the carbs. (that may be why it won't rev with a load on the engine) When I got my Genesis... I did that before it even saw the water for the first time.

Tony

Yeap, I replaced the fuel lines a week or so ago and cleaned the carbs while I was waiting for the LR505 Module to come in. I'm going to water test this weekend hopefully(if my Jeep is running by then). If you think of anything else I should proactively check before then let me know.

Ill be working on my GTS carbon seal til then... Would be nice to have all 3 skis running by this weekend, wishful thinking but well see. thanks again.

Nope... that's about it.

My driveshaft seal was bad... but that's because the Jack-off who worked on it before me didn't know what end of the screwdriver to use. But, you may want to grease it. You can see the grease nipple though the hole in the drive shaft cover.
