Challenger 1800 with shorelander trailer thinking about putting the bolt on ratchet straps on and was wondering what people have to say about them good and bad. My straps now hook to the light bracket. Can the ratchet bolt to the same place?
They offer a angle bracket should I get the bracket too. It looks like it would need the bracket to get the ratchet base directly under the transom eyes.
Thanks
Terry

They are cool... but expensive. Last I looked... you are at about $70 for the set of bolt-on's.

On your trailer... you would either bolt them onto the rear cross member... or you would make new brackets, and bolt/weld them to where you hook on now.

Yeah they will shoot a. $70 dollar bill but they remain on the trailer, got to be better straps than the over center latch type, and look easy to
Tighten and loosen. I was just wondering if anyone did not like them for a reason I have not thought of yet
Thanks
Terry

Pale Rider,
I can see the advantage of having it cantered, now that you pointed it out. The link is still an over center latch. My wife has a hard time with them. The ratchet type would be easier for her to latch and unlatch. I have some ratchet straps for my car hauler, I will try hooking them up to the boat and trailer just to see if it is as easy as I think.
Thanks
Terry

true, they are a bit difficult to get just right for tension. just be careful of the ratchet type straps and not crank them down to tight:cheers:

No doubt that they are cool, I seriously considered them.

The main reason I did not go with them is, they will be in and out of the water every time you head out for a ride. I did not want to out the mechanics of the ratchet system in the water that often. Once they fail, you will need to buy another set and the money would just keep adding up.

I have a center loop in the middle of my tandum trailer and then the normal loops/holes near the tail lights. I use quality ratchet straps, as a result the hooks do not fit through the loops on either of my skis. I use to have to pull the strap out of the ratchet and thread it through the loops of the ski then back into the ratchet.

I bought four (two per ski) carabiner clips that have sleeves that thread the clip closed for strength and leave them right on my straps. So now all you have to do is, loosen the strap, un-clip the carabiner clip, pull the hooks from the trailer and toss them into the back of my car. Installing is just as easy, pop the carabiner clips onto the skis, put the hooks into the loops and tighten the ratchet strap.

Works perfect and takes literally 30 seconds or so.

They look like this but are more heavy duty, (rated for 1000 pounds).
