Ok, so I finally have everything together to finish my top end rebuild on a 94 seadoo gtx 650. My main question is, in the manual it says to use Loctite 515 on the outer edge of the cylinders (See Pic). I did not notice any residue or signs of use when I took it apart? I assumed that the rubber ring was the only thing used. Can someone let me know if I need to use the 515 and how much and where exactly to use it, ide hate to get any inside the cylinders?

2nd question, without buying the piston ring tool, what is a good way to hold the piston rings while I slide them into the cylinders?

thanks -

Heres the pic for the 1st question -

Don't know a lot about this engine cause is a 787 but I can't imagine why you would put loctite on a gasket. Maybe doc will know. He's pretty much the guru on all things seadoo. I've only used loctite on threaded parts.

Loctite 515 is a flange sealant and not thread locker ... It is important if you like maximum compression and excellent performance from your top end including keepin out water from jacket!!! Use it!!!

So obviously I put the 515 on the outer side of the rubber o-ring and I probably only need a light coat?

yep... just a very light coat on the outer edge of the cyl.

If the head and cyl aren't warped... and the O-rings are new... you can just wipe a little 2 stroke oil on the O-rings, and put it together without a sealer.

Loctite 515 and 518 are both flange sealers, and they disassemble very easy. If there is a question about the sealing surfaces... a little ultra copper RTV will work too. (not the best for the job though) But... just put it on the outer edge of the cyl. (not the piston side)

This product is an anearobic gasket maker/sealer. You can use Permatex part number 51813. It is the equivalent of the Loctite product. A 1.69 oz. tube is about 15.00. It is all you need to do the job. Acutally it is more that what you need but it was the only size I could find.

Awesome, thanks for all the info. I did get the Permatex 51813, no one around here sells the loctite 515 or 518. Nothing is warped and I am using brand new o-rings so I probably dont need to use it but I am going to use a very thin coat like the Dr advised! : )

Consult the manual for your machine and use it where it says to. The manufacturers put that info in their manuals for a reason.LOL
