Guys, I took the 95 Sportster out today, and I went and did everything correctly. Recharged battery whole night long, I put in fresh Shell 91 gasoline (I know its not needed) but I wanted a good fresh batch in there. Put new spark plugs.

The boat started up strong, and it felt strong, everything looked great, however, when I went to push the throttle it acted like it was going to go fast and it started revving the boat high, but it didn't go on plane...

Tried a couple of more times, and I knew it it didnt sound good so I stopped and beached it, and then voila, I couldnt started it again, looked in the engine bay, it was full of water, almost all the way to pass the air box...?

What do you guys think it is? your help is greatly appreciated, thanks..

Sounds like the driveshaft seal gave out.

Since you have the old style seal... it may have seized, and ripped from it's mount.

Thanks Doc, would that cause cavitation? The driveshaft seal is what is hooked up to the PTO and rotates? Just asking but I will search it right now..

is this the carbon seal? is there a replacement schedule for this? sorry to barg in like this, can we all learn together?!!!!:)

Thanks OCOD,

How do you remove it?

by the way thanks again for everything, you guys are the best!

should come off when you take out driveshaft.
Just loosen old worm clamp from rubber boot and bearing carrier will come out

This may be a stupid question but I must ask... did you screw your hull drain plugs in before putting it in the water? Seems like you took on alot of water.... Is your bilge pump working?

Since he has the old style seal... if there is an issue... water coming in can be WAY faster than the bilge bump could ever think about getting out.

This is the main reason SeaDoo went to the carbon seal. It may leak, and cause cavitation when warn... but it's almost impossible to have a catastrophic failure.

Thanks Guys, I think my bilge pump is working, I believe what Doc and OCOD said..

Do you guys think that the "Cavitation" could "also" be my Wear Ring and/or Impeller?, I want to fix everything at once just to make sure...

thanks

If you are taking it all apart I would just swap out the wear ring if it looks like it's close to it's end of life. The impeller is up to you if it's damaged, you want better hookup, or somehting like that than swap it.

Thanks, and just one more question...

Sorry to be such a noob, do I have to remove everything? Where do I start in removing everything? thanks..

Not the pump shoe or grate. Everything else in the picture. It come off very easy. Yours might be a little harder to pull becuase you used RTV sealer instead of gasket. You just remove the nozzel and pump thats it. Like 8 bolts/nuts total if you have a reverse bucket than add 4 more bolts.

,

Thanks, I purchased the complete kit that OCOD recommended I do... so here I go in installing it...

you should replace pto boot while you are at it, also, both rubber bumpers at end of driveshaft, bumpers only a couple dollars each, i just went through the same thing,-- also grease both ends (splines) of driveshaft real good with some synthetic grease..

I dont think mine has a boot, and if it does, its not there (I think), was it hard to install?

in the picture on post 7, its the first boot on the pto, and the 2 rubber bumpers on both sides of drive shaft. when iu took mine apart, 1 bumper was gone, letting driveshaft to slide into pto , probably 1/4 or so further, then this didnt give me enough pressure on carbon seal -- the pto boot, while you are in there, isnt that much more, and remember grease on each end of driveshaft

I know this sounds really dumb, but what do I take out first? If I get the first thing out, I know how to take everything else apart after that...

Ahhh shoot. Never mind. I just realized this is the pre carbon ring days machine. Lol
