tips on replacing storage compartment latch

hi, i have a 1995 sea doo gtx. recently the front storage compartment latch failed on my machine and for the first time ever i cannot find a bit of info online on how to install the new part. i am pretty certain i have the right part but cannot figure out how to install it properly. is there a trick to it? when i assemble the three parts; top, bottom and spring, the spring forces the 3 pieces i put together to come apart. so i cannot put them up to the holes to screw it in because the minute i release the pressure on holding the assembly together the spring forces the assembly apart. appreicate any help i can get....

So you bought a new latch and it came in 3 pieces? Strange, every one I looked at came complete. Why not just buy a new latch? There are several on eBay right now for $5 or so. From there all you have to do is put the 2 bolts in and you're good to go

I am having the same problem. Have the latch, metal bar, two end clips and the spring. Need to see a picture of how the spring goes in.
