tips on installing new storage compartment latch

hi, i have a 1995 sea doo gtx. recently the front storage compartment latch failed on my machine and for the first time ever i cannot find a bit of info online on how to install the new part. i am pretty certain i have the right part but cannot figure out how to install it properly. is there a trick to it? when i assemble the three parts; top, bottom and spring, the spring forces the 3 pieces i put together to come apart. so i cannot put them up to the holes to screw it in because the minute i release the pressure on holding the assembly together the spring forces the assembly apart. appreicate any help i can get....

Edit: Sorry, I completely read that wrong. Guess the word "latch" flew right past my eyes. I have not even looked at how that piece goes together. Good luck though.


Do you have a picture? Mine is a '97, but I just installed a new one as well.

-Removed the c-clips and pins on both ends of the shock. (Hood in fully open position)
-Removed the storage bin, and then the two nuts on the bottom of the mounting bracket.
-Pulled the old bracket off and placed the new one in position.
-Reinstalled the backing plate and two nuts on the underside of the hull for the bracket.
-Installed the retaining pin on the hood end of the shock, then the c-clip.
-Used the palm of one hand to push the shock in and install the rear shock pin and c-clip.
