Hi everybody. I'm not sure if a thread like this has been done before or if the Moderators want it posted in another area, I only work with two strokes so I thought I'd post here.
I was just looking to see what tips and tricks people have when working with their Doo's. Also, if people have done any custom "tweaks" that are not standard but have worked. Give us some of your ideas. I'll throw two out there
Jet pump oil changes.
I always have a spare o-ring on hand because the used o-ring has a 99% chance of getting pinched. I buy o-rings from the hardware store parts bins for 90 cents. A small bead of gel seal on the cone also helps seal things up a little more. I just run regular differential gear oil in the pump, a quart costs less than a small container of synthetic pump oil. Change the pump oil often.
Bilge pump lines.
I have a 94 XP that I like to stand on the back end, but it fills with water fast when I do this. When the machine is on end the entire bilge pump system is below the water level and the jet is not running high rpm's. I guessed the water pressure pushing in was stronger than the suction action pulling water out so I replaced my bilge "pump" lines. I replaced the short lines with lines that ran from the pickup ends, up to the front of the mag cylinder and out the regular pump fittings. I drilled a small hole at the bend in the lines at the furthest forward point to prevent siphoning. It worked, no more filling the hull when standing on the tail and the bilge system still works.
