Throttle plate????

Does anyone know how far or what the clearance should be on the throttle plate/butterfly valve at WOT. I have a 200 DFI and while lubing up the throttle assembly I noticed the plate wasn’t opening up all the way when the lever was WOT. Instead it’s about 2/3 maybe a little less. The strange thing is at WOT the throttle lever on the engine block is hitting the throttle stop and while in neutral the idle stop screw is correct. I guess I should also mention that the reason I was lubing the throttle assembly is the shift lever was extremely stiff come to find out there was a wire that goes to the + terminal on the alternator was restricting the movement. I hoping that I didn’t stretch any cables or worse.

I'll just bump this to the top for now, so I don't forget about it. My Utopia has the same 200 DFI, and I'll go take the cover off this afternoon and let you know what mine looks like at WOT.

Ok I'm back.

I went and had a look at the throttle plate on my engine, and it is very clearly wide open at full throttle. Reading through the manual it states that there is no adjustment, and the throttle body must be replaced as a unit if there is a problem. To start I would make sure you are getting full throttle. Grab the linkage and open it as wide as possible by hand. If it opens completely vertically then you might have a cable problem.

The cable adjustment in the manual reads that at closed throttle with the shifter in neutral there should be slight tension on the idle stop screw. To adjust the cable they state that you should shift between forward and reverse a few times, then return the shifter to neutral. Now adjust the cable with the cable barrel so that with a thin piece of paper between the idle screw and the stop, you can just slide the paper out without the paper tearing.

You should now see the butterfly in the vertical position and the throttle lever against the stop with the shifter in the wide open position. If the throttle lever is against the stop but the butterfly is not vertical you have a problem with the throttle body. If the throttle lever is not against the stop you have a problem with the cable.

I have added a picture of my throttle body to show what it should look like at wide open throttle.
